It is another busy day of action at the BDO World Darts Championship on Thursday as we have the Youth final, the four ladies quarter finals and we see the conclusion of the second round of the men’s event inside the Lakeside Country Club.
The big names are starting to bite the dust in this tournament now so those who are in action on Thursday are sure to have their minds focused for the opportunity that is in front of them. A number of matches catch the eye but the ladies quarter finals all have a special look to them.

Afternoon Session
We have the Youth Final to get us underway where Justin van Tergouw looks a penalty kick to defend his title. He takes on the Irish youngster Killian Heffernan. The first ladies quarter final sees the number one seed Deta Hedman taking on Sharon Prins for a place in the semi-final.
There is only one men’s match in the afternoon session which comes in the third game as Jim Williams looks to make it into his first quarter final when he takes on Conan Whitehead. It might be that the best has been saved until last as the afternoon concludes with Trina Gulliver taking on Aileen de Graaf.
Evening Session
We begin the evening session in the ladies draw too as the defending champion Lisa Ashton takes on the hugely competent Fallon Sherrock in what is a repeat of the 2015 final which Ashton won. Martin Phillips then takes on the surprise package of the week thus far in Michael Unterbuchner in a battle of experience vs youth.
On paper the pick of the ladies quarter finals is saved until last as Anastasia Dobromyslova takes on her friend and pairs partner Lorraine Winstanley. Both women were excellent in the first round and that should be a cracking match. The day is rounded off with another juicy looking battle between Geert de Vos and Richard Veenstra.

Betting
Over the course of the day I’m going with three bets. We begin in the afternoon where I just have to take on the number one seed in the women’s draw. Deta Hedman never convinces me on this stage which is a shame because hers is a career that deserves to be crowned with a world title but I fear it may never happen. Had it not been for Lisa Ashton, Sharon Prins would have a much better record in this tournament but she doesn’t face an Ashton here. Neither woman was great in the first round but Prins had five points on her average and with more to add on that she’s the value to see off Hedman.
Moving into the evening and the final match of the night is the one which gets my attention. I’m surprised Richard Veenstra is the outsider against Geert de Vos. We’ve seen year in, year out that de Vos just can’t hit doubles reliably and that is likely to keep the Dutchman interested in this one. I thought Veenstra was excellent in the first round and a repeat of that performance can send him through to another quarter final.
I also think the 180s line is a little low in that match. It is 10.5 and when you think the pair combined for 15 180s in their opening round matches I’m expecting to see that line covered. We know de Vos scores all day and Veenstra isn’t too far behind so I fully expect the overs to land in that market.
