2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Chesterfield vs Notts County Betting Preview

There is one remaining League 2 match before the Easter period and it comes from Derbyshire on Sunday afternoon when Chesterfield play host to Notts County in a match which is going to have implications at both ends of the table.

Chesterfield go into the match second from bottom in the pile but already they’ve seen Barnet below them and Grimsby above them lose comfortably this weekend while Notts County are fourth and will go within a point of Wycombe in third with a win of their own.

Chesterfield

There is no denying the fact that this has been a disappointing season for the Spireites and it looks highly likely that they will be suffering successive relegations but they have a couple of games in hand of a freefalling Grimsby side so they shouldn’t give up all hope of survival completely. Clearly they need to start winning football matches.

The home side have picked up just four points from the last 21 available to them and they are not doing anything with form like that so they need to find an inspiration in the fact that the TV cameras are showing up for this match and using that to pick up a much needed result. They have taken those four points in the last three matches so maybe something is beginning to come.

Notts County

It has not been a good 2018 for Notts County so far. They went into the year well places towards the head of the division but they have slid out of the automatic promotion places and taken an absolute hammering in the FA Cup when they went and shipped eight at Swansea. Despite that they still have every chance of going up.

Although they have slid away from the top, the Magpies haven’t been in bad form recently. They have only lost one of their last seven although they will have been disappointed to concede so late on against Mansfield last weekend. That said if they can win this match they will be within a point of Wycombe and the two sides meet on Friday.

Team News

Chesterfield will be able to call on the services of Louis Reed again after he has completed a two match ban. Kristian Dennis returned recently too so a lengthy injury list is beginning to ease for Jack Lester.

Notts County will be without Ben Hall and Liam Walker for this match. They are both on international duty so will miss the game. All eyes will be on the veteran strike pairing of Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi.

Betting

Chesterfield have seen off some big sides at the Proact Stadium this season with Luton and Exeter among their scalps so they might not be a forlorn hope in this contest. That said with Notts County desperate for the points themselves I don’t think this will be easy for the home side.

The bet I like is for both sides to score. Both teams are going to go out and try and get the three points in this match because they both need them and each side has a serious goal threat in their ranks. Kristian Dennis is one of the leading scorers in the division while Notts County have a few goalscorers in their ranks. The way this match is set up I fancy both sides to find the net before the final whistle gets blown.
