2018 China Open Snooker – Semi-Finals Betting Preview

It is multi-session snooker all the way for the remainder of the season here on in beginning with the two China Open semi-finals which take place in Beijing on Saturday. The World Championship seedings are all sorted out so the four remaining players can relax and play for a bumper first prize.

We are now up to the best of 19 frames for these semi-finals which will be played over two sessions of action and with four quality players taking part in them we should be set for an exciting day on the green baize.

Mark Selby vs Kyren Wilson

The semi-final in the open half of the draw is a repeat of the battle from this stage of the event last year when Mark Selby takes on Kyren Wilson. Wilson came back from the dead in the quarter final having trailed Jack Lisowski 4-0 but he came through to win 6-5. Selby was much more comfortable in beating Mark Williams 6-2.

Both these men have looked in good touch this week. I think we would be lying to say that Selby hit the ground running because he clearly didn’t but he has worked his way into the tournament and looks like the Selby of old now. Wilson has been very consistent this week and the way he battled back against Lisowski suggests he might not be finished with this tournament yet.

I think Selby will come through here but Wilson is certainly playing well enough to keep the world number one honest so rather than bet on handicaps or anything like that I’ll take Selby to make a couple of tons. He has made two tons in each of his last four matches and over the extended distance here I see no reason why he won’t make two more against a Wilson who has already had a couple of tons made against him.

Neil Robertson vs Barry Hawkins

The second semi-final sees two men who have not had the best of seasons going up against each other for the chance to win a barrel load of cash and pick up the ultimate World Championship boost when Neil Robertson takes on Barry Hawkins, again over the best of 19 frames.

I’m already on Robertson at 7/1 for this match having backed him each way before the tournament began and having won his last two matches for the loss of just one frame I certainly see no reason why I should take him on now especially with Hawkins having had to battle through two deciders over the same stages of the tournament.

This one is entitled to be closer than the last two the Australian has been involved in but he looks to be coming good to me and so with that in mind I’ll sit on my outright ticket in the hope someone can finally win a snooker semi-final for me and land at least the each way pay out.
