Judgement Day has arrived at the World Championship qualifiers. On Wednesday we will find out the 16 men who will qualify for the Crucible Theatre and the main draw which takes place on Thursday morning.
Each of the 16 matches in this final round are underway with some having a more one-sided scoreline than others but the one thing they all have in common is that the pressure to get over the line will be massive.
Tuesday Recap
We went into Tuesday with five match bets and two outright bets running for us and we have a couple in a good position, a load in competitive contests and one which might be dead in the water. Jamie Jones leads Liang Wenbo 9-0 and that isn’t getting turned around so we will be collecting on that and we should be getting paid out on the Robert Milkins match bet as he leads Michael Holt 7-2.
Jimmy Robertson, Graeme Dott, Daniel Wells and Zhang Anda all go into their final session trailing 5-4 but they are all capable of turning their matches around but Rory McLeod’s 7-2 deficit to Lu Haotian might just be a bridge too far.
Morning Session
The matches which began on Tuesday morning finish in this session which means we have Stuart Carrington looking to hold onto a 5-4 lead over Zhang Anda, Mike Dunn looking to close out the same lead over Graeme Dott, Ricky Walden leading Andrew Higginson by the same score and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh looking to close out Alfie Burden from 5-4 up. Joe Perry, Matthew Stevens and Robert Milkins are 7-2 up on Mark Davis, Ken Doherty and Michael Holt respectively. Chris Paisley leads Tian Pengfei 8-1.
Afternoon Session
Jamie Jones shouldn’t need long to see off Liang Wenbo from 9-0 up while Xiao Guodong is 8-1 up on Adam Duffy and should breeze through too. Lu Haotian is another who may not need long to convert a 7-2 lead on Rory McLeod and the same can be said for Jack Lisowski who is 7-2 up on Alan McManus. Stephen Maguire and Ryan Day are 6-3 up on Hossein Vafaei and Peter Ebdon while two closer matches see Michael White 5-4 up on Jimmy Robertson and Liam Highfield 5-4 ahead of Daniel Wells.

Betting
I’ve got enough bets running in this final day so I don’t want to go too mad with more but I do have a feeling that Thepchaiya Un-Nooh is going to have a battle on his hands to get over the line against Alfie Burden.
We saw a fair bit of that match on the wonderful coverage on Tuesday and Burden threw a couple of frames away so he could easily have been 6-3 up instead of 5-4 down. If the fact that this is the final session focuses the mind of Burden and makes him concentrate on every shot he is playing well enough to turn this one around. Un-Nooh has never played at the Crucible and something tells me he won’t get there easily. Burden generally handles pressure well enough and can touch off the Thai late on.
