England vs Australia – 5th ODI Betting Preview

England will go in search of a whitewash of their ODI series with Australia on Sunday when the two sides meet in Manchester for the final match of it at Old Trafford. England have been brutal in the series so far and will hope to have one more big performance in them.

Australia have found the going pretty tough on this trip but we know they are a proud bunch and they will be desperate to avoid being whitewashed less than a year before they return for the World Cup.

England

The cricket England are playing in this series at the minute is a joy to watch. If you want to be critical they might still be yielding too many runs in the latter stage of an innings but to be fair to them they are missing two massive death bowlers at the minute. Really though they are playing fantastic cricket and they will hope they can do so for another 12 months.

It is with the bat that England are doing the real damage. They have been scoring runs for fun in this series and might just be turning up to play on the best batting wicket in the country which will give them plenty more confidence, not that they need it. Usually at this stage of a series there could be an easing up but England deserve the whitewash and will be eager to get it.

Australia

If it could go wrong for Australia in this series it has done although it hasn’t all been bad luck. Aaron Finch showed in Durham that sticking him in the middle order was a nonsense of a move and that might have contributed to many of their problems. It isn’t really with the bat that they have struggled though to be fair to them.

Australia have been awful with the ball right throughout the series, maybe with the exception of the first game. In fairness to them there hasn’t been a whole lot in the last three wickets but the amount of short and wide balls with nothing on them that have been served up has been ridiculous and while they are missing players and England’s batting is on fire there is no excuse for that.

Team News

England brought Craig Overton in for his debut in the previous match but that was a move that didn’t really work. Tom Curran and Jake Ball were ahead of him when the squad was named and one of those could come in for him.

Australia will be hoping that Glenn Maxwell is well enough to play and if he is Alex Carey or Michael Neser could make way for him. We can assume Aaron Finch will open the batting while Andrew Tye could be recalled too.

Betting

I’m not going to go too mad for this match because it is a dead rubber despite England wanting to win. Everything we’ve seen in this series suggests England are a class above their opponents here and at Old Trafford in particular I’m expecting that to be shown up once again.

Old Trafford is one of the best batting wickets in the country but it also offers some turn and given the dry burst we’ve had I would expect the wicket to be fairly dry. It is going to be a hot day too so it will only get better for the spinners throughout. We’ve seen all series that Australia can’t play spin so I’m expecting an emphatic England victory in this match and I think they can cover what is not much of a handicap along the way.

Adil Rashid has been hard to play in this series and I suspect he is about to get even more difficult on a pitch which offers pace and bounce for his variations. I’ve already mentioned how the spinners enjoy success on this ground and so the 3/1 on Rashid leading England’s bowling charts looks good to me.
