2018 Wimbledon Tennis – Ladies Semi-Finals Betting Preview

It is the ladies semi-final day at Wimbledon on Thursday with the four remaining women looking to punch their ticket to the final of the third Grand Slam of the year on Saturday afternoon. Both matches are on Centre Court which adds to the profile of them.

It is quite well known that the top seeds have already tumbled from this draw but we have four very good players who are playing some excellent tennis ready to entertain the Centre Court crowds and those watching at home.

Day 9 Recap

It was the day of the tournament by far on Wednesday when we had two absolute epic five set contests and two more extremely competitive four set showdowns on a wonderful day of tennis. We also saw the shocks continue when Kevin Anderson came from two sets down to take out Roger Federer. Elsewhere Rafael Nadal came through a deciding set classic against Juan Martin del Potro while John Isner and Novak Djokovic both won in four sets.

It was a decent betting day for us which we needed. After the struggles of Tuesday we saw Djokovic comfortably cover his handicap and while there were not as many games in the Raonic vs Isner clash, Isner did win the match to bring in our 16/1 quarter bet which has boosted the coffers nicely.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Angelique Kerber

Two former Grand Slam champions meet in the first of the two semi-finals on Thursday when the 2017 French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko takes on the 2016 Australian and US Open champion Angelique Kerber for the first time in their careers.

Ostapenko has played some lovely tennis in the last couple of rounds but Kerber has handled the pressure of being the favourite to come through her half of the draw nicely in recent times and should be commended for that. Both women look to be hitting the ball very well which sets this one up nicely.

I’m effectively on the German at 6/1 in this semi-final having backed her outright earlier in the competition but I actually think this will be a lengthy and drawn out match so I’m going to back over 21.5 games in this one. Both are holding serve pretty well and hitting the ball hard. I expect two close sets here if not a deciding set. Either way we should get to 22 games.

Julia Goerges vs Serena Williams

Two women at opposite ends of the Grand Slam semi-final experience charts do battle in the second of the semi-finals when the German star Julia Goerges takes on the legend Serena Williams for a place in the final.

Goerges is competing in her first major semi-final while Williams is in her 35th which is a quite ridiculous number when you think about it. I’m expecting that experience to count and assist Serena with the win but I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Goerges gives her the run around at some point for a little while. I never oppose Serena on grass but I don’t really feel there is much value in backing her here so I’ll sit this one out.
