It is the final day of the German Darts Championship on Sunday and as ever with these European Tour events the last 16, quarter finals, semis and the final will be played on a crazy busy day for the players who go all the way.
We saw some fantastic darts thrown out in Hildesheim on Saturday with darts for a nine dart finish being missed and 180s everywhere we looked and although one or two big names fell in their first matches we should get more of the same on Sunday. As ever time restrictions will mean we can only preview the last 16 which we will do here.
First Four Matches
We open up with the world champion Rob Cross in action. He takes on Michael Rasztovits for a place in the quarter final where the winner will face the successor in the match that follows. That sees Mensur Suljovic going up against Darren Webster. James Wilson then takes on Robert Thornton who is having a much needed run and then the top half matches conclude with Michael Smith going up against Ron Meulenkamp.
Later Four Matches
The first match after the interval is the pick of the afternoon games as Daryl Gurney takes on Adrian Lewis for a place in the quarter final. Joe Cullen could be awaiting the winner if he can come past Jan Dekker in the next match before Terry Jenkins’ revival will continue when he plays Dave Chisnall. The session concludes with the world champion Michael van Gerwen going up against Martin Schindler.

Betting
I like one bet on Sunday afternoon and it comes in the big match of the day between Daryl Gurney and Adrian Lewis. Both these men are looking to reinvent themselves. Lewis after injury and a fading form and Gurney after a bit of a struggle in 2018 after really arriving to the big time in 2017.
I think Gurney can get the better of Lewis here. Lewis is showing some of his better form but there is no way that he is back to his best yet. While Gurney hasn’t had the 2018 he would like his lack of form is down to an extended workload rather than confidence or anything like that. Under pressure I still don’t think Lewis is reliable on key doubles and finishes. Gurney has had a break to refresh and he can come through here.
Tips
Back D.Gurney to beat A.Lewis for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
