The NFL season begins in the early hours of Friday morning and having had a look at the team markets for the campaign we now have the chance to look through the many player markets where there is often plenty of value. This season appears no different.
We would usually split this preview into separate parts but with the countdown well and truly on for the start of the campaign we will combine all of the markets into one preview to make it easier for people to get their bets on.

Most Passing Yards
Historically this has been all about Drew Brees although it was Tom Brady who threw for the most yards last year. Brady is without his main receiver for the first four weeks and a change in offensive co-ordinator might have an impact on him so I think Brees is a worthy favourite but the Saints’ offense is much more balanced these days. Cases can be made for the likes of Philip Rivers, Matt Stafford and Aaron Rodgers but this could be a year but a young gun to thrive.
Patrick Mahomes was signed by Kansas City in the draft last year and many expected him to be their starting QB last year. He spent a year learning the playbook and the pro ranks under Alex Smith but the Chiefs are letting him loose this season and I see no reason why he can’t have a great campaign. He has a big arm and with the likes of Tyreeq Hill and Sammy Watkins to pass to as well as the reliable Travis Kelce he isn’t short of options. Kareem Hunt can catch balls in the backfield as well so there are lots of options. I’m expecting KC to open up the playbook this year and the youngster could thrive with the options at his disposal.
Most Rushing Yards
Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott and Los Angeles Rams speedster Todd Gurley are pushing for favouritism in this market. To be fair Elliott looks a standout favourite to me with the Cowboys O-line as good as it is and the lack of any suspension issues hanging over him but I found out to my cost last season how easy it is for an injury to be costly in this market so I’m in no rush to back him at 11/4. Or indeed Gurley at 7/2 for that matter. Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt interest me but it is two others I’ll take.
Jordan Howard had an excellent season for the Chicago Bears last season and the addition of Khalil Mack should make them better defensively which means the Bears can manage the clock a little better through their powerful running back. With that in mind Howard should bank a few more garbage yards which could be the difference between being a top three rusher in the league in terms of yards and not. Howard is powerful and capable of busting tackles. He should go well once again. The other man to interest me is Dalvin Cook. I took him 12 months ago and he was flying clear when he went down in week four. We don’t know how he is after his injury just yet but I’ll pay to see if he is close to how he was pre-injury. If he is then 20/1 will look big pretty quickly.
Most Receiving Yards
As ever this market is all about Antonio Brown and that is understandable. If anything he might be more of a favourite while Le’Veon Bell is messing the Steelers around but again this is a market where an injury is so costly. There are a couple of others at the head of the market worthy of interest but many of them will share yards with fellow receivers. I’ll go further down the betting for a standout pick.
Devante Adams is going to be the leading receiver at Green Bay now that Jordy Nelson has left for Oakland and I expect him to go well with Rodgers back under center. Jimmy Graham is likely to occupy the extra man through the centre of the pitch so Adams may see plenty of 1:1 coverage. Rodgers is a master of finding his receivers in that situation and unless Randall Cobb stands up and is counted I’m expecting a big output from Adams over the course of the campaign.
