The opening match of the NFL season sees the Philadelphia Eagles beginning their title defence when they go up against the Atlanta Falcons in what would appear to be a tasty looking tussle to get the campaign underway.

Philadelphia Eagles
A good all-round side got the job done for the Eagles last season with their backup players rising to the fore when they were called upon. Philadelphia have a balanced offense and one of the best defences in the league which is built on the stability and the quality of their defensive line where no quarterback is going to get any peace.
Philly will be without their first choice quarterback Carson Wentz for this match and it would appear that Alshon Jeffrey will be missing for them as well so the man who guided them to success in the Super Bowl will start at quarterback in Nick Foles. Zach Ertz will be key to the offense but you get the feeling this will be a night for the defence.
Atlanta Falcons
It was a weird campaign for Atlanta last season. Having gone to the Super Bowl the year before where they are probably still wondering even now how they didn’t become champions, their offense that launched that run to the final game stuttered and it was down to their defence that they were able to make it to the postseason.
I guess the success or otherwise for the Falcons this season will depend on how well they go with their offense. If it clicks like it did two years ago then they will be Super Bowl contenders. If it doesn’t then the big question is was their defensive solidity last year a one-off or is that the way forward for Atlanta from now on.

Betting
I think this could be a night where the offenses struggle. Philadelphia will be using their second choice quarterback who will be without the main receiving target while Atlanta’s offense has a few question marks to answer over the course of the night.
Matt Ryan isn’t going to get much time to find his array of receivers and there aren’t many running backs who get much change out of this Phladelphia defence. Atlanta’s own defence are decent enough in the backfield though so 45pts looks a little high in terms of points here. I’ll ride the under.
