It is the third day of action in the St Leger meeting at Doncaster on Friday and while we have to wait until Saturday for the big race there is still some decent offerings for us to bet on over the course of Friday. We’ve gone through the card and come up with these two bets.

A Group 3 over 7 furlongs for the girls sees 10 runners heading to post. The betting is headed by the 5 year old Laugh Aloud who has only had 1 run in over 12 months so there must be some risk attached to backing her.
Betting
I much prefer the chances of Ellthea who won at this track last year as a 2 year old & then landed a Group 3 over in Ireland. She has been lightly raced this term, having been out only twice in much better company than this. Both those runs were in France & she ran well enough to suggest she can return to the winners enclosure here. Interestingly, her trainer has said she had problems with her seasons but now she’s in top shape. With 3 years having a good record in this race, I’m very hopeful of a big run at big odds.
Tips
Back Ellthea (e/w) for a 1.5/10 stake at 8.50 Bet365 BOG (¼ odds 1-3)

A handicap over a couple of furlong shy of 2 miles & I’m incredibly sweet on the 3 year old heading the market Ben Vrackie. A lightly raced Frankel colt who has only seen the racecourse 4 times but he’s from a top yard & is clearly very well thought of, holding a Group 2 entry.
Betting
2 starts ago, he won a novice race by over 10 lengths & really couldn’t have been any more impressive or done it any easier. He then went to Goodwood & raced in a 3 runner race where he was 2nd behind Maid Up who he had to give 3lbs too. That was in a Group 3 &, just to put it into context, the horse that won that day is a 20/1 shot for tomorrow’s final classic of the season, the St Leger. WIth loads of improvement left, some decent form in the book & a top jockey booking, I’m expecting he goes on to land the spoils for favourite backers.
Tips
Back Ben Vrackie (e/w) for a 2/10 stake at 5.50 Betfred BOG (⅕ odds 1-4)
