The night after the Vitality Blast winners were crowned the Caribbean Premier League champions will be determined when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the Trinbago Knight Riders for the title in Trinidad on Sunday evening.
The Trinbago Knight Riders will be looking to defend the title they won last season while Guyana have a fourth tilt at the trophy having lost in three previous finals prior to this one. These are the two best teams in the competition so a good final should be guaranteed.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
After snatching second spot in the table and two goes at making the final in the last regular season match, the Guyana Warriors decided they didn’t need two goes at it as they powered past the Trinbago Knight Riders for the second time in a matter of days to qualify for the final by skipping the semi-final.
Explosive batting got them into this final and you sense if they are going to win the title then they will need their power with the willow to come to the fore. They will also need their bowling attack to deliver the goods on a pitch which is likely to suit the Amazon Warriors. With that in mind they have plenty to be positive about heading into this final.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Trinbago Knight Riders bounced back from their successive defeats to the Guyana Amazon Warriors to see off the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the semi-final on Friday night and they will look to use that confidence to successfully defend the title in this match. They will have home advantage in this final which may help them.
If they are going to win this final they will need to make sure that they use their bowling resources correctly. They have been guilty of going the distance at the death and in what could very well be a tight final that would not be ideal. On the flip side of that they don’t lack for batsmen so if they are chasing you would back them to chase down most totals.
Team News
It would come as a surprise if the Guyana Amazon Warriors make any changes after successive wins against their opponents in the last seven days so only a late illness or injury could cause the Guyanese to change.
Trinbago Knight Riders have no need to change anything either but the way Anderson Phillip went around the park in the last game would make him vulnerable. Khary Pierre would be the ideal man to come in and replace him.

Betting
I like the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this final. They are the fresher outfit but I think the last two meetings between these two would tell us they are probably the better unit as well. Whether it is with the bat or the ball they have the tools to get the job done. Trinbago did well to come through the semi-final but I’m not convinced about them at the death which makes me think the Amazon Warriors are the ones to be with here.
I’ll also have a little dabble on Sherfane Rutherford to be the man of the match. Finals often get unlikely heroes. Carlos Brathwaite in the World T20 final, Kevon Cooper in the final of this last year, Ben Cox last night and Rutherford would fit that bill. He is a very clean hitter of the cricket ball and with the Knight Riders ordinary at the death he should get the chance to explode into life. At 18/1 he’s overpriced to be the man of the match.
