Afternoon Session

Joe Perry vs Anthony Hamilton

Two veterans compete in the first of the semi-finals when Joe Perry takes on Anthony Hamilton over the best of 11 frames. Both these men have one ranking event title to their names and one of them will have the chance to play for a second on Sunday.

Perry had to come from 3-2 down to beat Tian Pengfei 4-3 in the quarter final but he took care of Kyren Wilson in fine style in the round before that. Hamilton has won his last two matches 4-3 but in Luca Brecel and Jack Lisowski he has beaten two dangerous and top quality opponents so he will be battle hardened for this match.

Perry has won the last four meetings between these two men and Hamilton has only won six frames in that time but I’m not convinced that will have any impact in this semi-final. I hope it doesn’t anyway because I am one step away from a monster pay out on Hamilton having backed him before a ball was hit this week. That is all the interest I need in this match.

Evening Session

Mark King vs Jimmy Robertson

The second semi-final sees Mark King going in search of a second ranking event title when he takes on Jimmy Robertson who is competing in his maiden last four clash at this stage of a major tournament.

King has already seen off Stuart Bingham and Ryan Day this week and has looked in pretty good touch in fairness but Robertson saw off Mark Allen in the quarter final but prior to that he had been to the very bitter distance in every round of the competition. That said there was something about Robertson in the quarter final that was appealing.

It has been a week of shocks so far in this tournament but I’m not expecting one here. King generally beats the players he is expected to beat and if this semi-final comes down to a battle of bottle then I expect it to be him who prevails. He has plenty of it whereas Robertson is at this level for the first time in his career. If Robertson suffers with nerves and things King could win this a shade comfortably. If he doesn’t and it turns into a battle I’m still favouring King.

Tips

Back M.King to beat J.Robertson for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Boylesports
