A wonderful Sunday in the National Football League concludes with the Sunday Night Football as ever which means a fourth live NFL match in the one day for those of us who are in the UK. This week the Kansas City Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium.
Both teams have made good starts to the campaign with Cincinnati 4-2 for the year and Kansas City 5-1 but both lost last week so there will be an intent to come out on top on national television in this game.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs lost their undefeated record last week but in fairness to them they didn’t do a whole lot wrong. The one thing you would say is that when they score 40pts they would expect to win matches even against the New England Patriots but they have got defensive injuries so they can be excused with that a little bit. They will want their defence to show an improvement in this match though.
On the other side of the ball things could not be going better for the Kansas City outfit. Patrick Mahomes has come into the team and he has lit up this offense and with the likes of Kareem Hunt, Tyreeq Hill, Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce as offensive weapons you get the feeling the Chiefs attack is never going to struggle too much.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals went down to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week in an agonising final play beat but they showed enough in that match to suggest that they can challenge the best in the NFL. Ultimately they need their defence to step up in the very big moments and I guess that is ultimately the reason why they have been unable to sustain any kind of a play-off run in the past.
We did see last week, as we have a few times this season, that the Bengals offense is going along nicely. Dalton and AJ Green are always going to link up well but the running power of Joe Mixon and the emergence of Tyler Boyd have added a couple of extra dimensions to this Cincinnati offense. Whether they are yet equipped to go toe to toe with the biggest teams and come out on top remains to be seen but they are not far away.

Betting
It is never easy to bet on a match where both combatants go into it off the back of a loss but my instinct tells me that Cincinnati Bengals can stay relatively close here. In all honesty I don’t really see how this doesn’t turn into a shootout and just like last Sunday it could well come down to who has the ball last as to who wins it. That’s obviously guesswork at this stage so I’ll take the bet which doesn’t require as much guessing.
The best bet in this match looks like over 6.5 touchdowns. Kansas City are scoring them by the bucket load while there is more than enough danger in the Bengals offense to get in the end zone as well. Both teams have seen their defence shredded at times this season so all things being equal I’m expecting to see seven touchdowns as a bare minimum.
