2018 World Series of Darts Finals – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second round of the World Series of Darts Finals takes place on a busy night of darts in Vienna on Saturday evening and it means that for the first time this weekend we will see the seeded stars of the world in action.

Friday night passed largely without too many in the way of major upsets but the way this format is laid out it is set up for shocks in this second round so it will be interesting to see how many big names bite the dust at the first opportunity.

First Four Matches

The second round begins with Michael Smith taking on Kyle Anderson for a place in the quarter finals before Raymond Barneveld is back on the big stage. He takes on the Australian player Raymond Smith. The third match of the night looks to be the pick of the second round when Gary Anderson faces Dave Chisnall in a cracking looking contest before Peter Wright meets Gerwyn Price in another juicy looking clash.

Later Four Matches

Simon Whitlock and Daryl Gurney meet in a repeat of the 2017 World Grand Prix final to get the second half of the matches underway before Rob Cross goes up against the man of the opening night in World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis. Mensur Suljovic will then look to put on a show for his home crowd when he takes on the European champion James Wade before the evening ends with Michael van Gerwen taking on the surprise package of the first round in Damon Heta.

Betting

Once again I can’t get too involved in this round of matches because the best of 11 is too short a format but a couple of handicap lines or prices look a little out of line here. Jamie Lewis is the first of those. He is getting 2.5 legs against the world champion Rob Cross but on the evidence of Friday night the Welshman might not even need them. We’ve not seen the best of Cross on a big stage for a while now so even if he wins this match it is unlikely that he’ll run away with it without the help of Lewis. You could tell Lewis wants to play well this week as a dedication to his late grandfather so he won’t lack for motivation. A match on the stage will have done him no harm either. I think he’ll get to four legs here if not all six.

Michael van Gerwen is back on the big stage in the final match of the night and if there is one thing we know about MVG in recent years it is that when he loses in a tournament he is doubly certain to make someone pay in the next one. Damon Heta may well be that unlucky man. Heta did well to come through the opening round but he’s not getting close to MVG with an 83.21 average and 33% on his doubles would suggest any pressure the Dutchman puts on the Australian he will crack. Heta may play better in a match he’s got nothing to lose in but MVG feasts on these matches for fun. It would be a shock if he loses more than one leg.
