NFL 2018 – Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears Betting Preview

After a bit of jiggery pokery the Sunday Night Football this week comes from Soldier Field as the Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings in a huge NFC North clash which could see the home side taking complete control of the division.

As well as the match being a battle of two teams in the same division it is also a clash between one of the best offenses in the NFL against one of the best defences and it is always fascinating to see how they play out.

Chicago Bears

There was an air of expectation about the Chicago Bears long before they signed Khalil Mack but when he signed they went from dark horses to serious contenders and have lived up to their new found billing so far this term. The fact that they kept on winning even when Mack was injured recently highlights the potential they already had before the defensive star arrived.

One of the reasons for their success without Mack is the nicely balanced offense they have been running under the much improved Mitch Trubisky. They need to maintain their form over the second half of the regular season but if they do that and go on and win the division they will fully deserve their spot in the postseason.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings began the campaign in mixed order but they have caught fire in recent times and go into this match off the back of four wins in their last five outings. The defeat in that time came against the New Orleans Saints and there is no shame in that so we’ve got to think that even on the road the Vikings will be tough to beat here.

One of the reasons for their success has been their two wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Kirk Cousins has linked up amazingly well with the pair of them and while teams can sometimes stop one of them to stop them both is very difficult. Minnesota have a decent ground game and a solid defence and are beginning to look like the NFC contenders I thought they were before the season began.

Betting

I’m expecting a tight match here. Chicago are going to get after Kirk Cousins while Minnesota should be able to stifle the key areas of this Bears offense so we should be in for quite an attritional battle with the defences on top and a fair bit of running the ball to keep the pass rushes at bay.

That makes me think that we are in for a bit of a low scoring contest here. The points line is at 44 in this match which I think is a bit on the high side even though Chicago are scoring for fun at the minute. They haven’t really faced a top defence yet but they do here so I like the under on that line.
