NFL 2018 – Washington Redskins @ Tennessee Titans Betting Preview

There is another double header of NFL action on Saturday evening and it is quite simply a massive night for the four sides involved. It gets underway in Memphis where the Tennessee Titans host the Washington Redskins in a winner takes all showdown.

Both sides are fighting hard for a wildcard in their respective conferences but winning out is the only way they are likely to get a spot so seasons are on the line in this opening match of one of the biggest regular season nights in recent history.

Tennessee Titans

It took a while but finally the Tennessee Titans look to be hitting their straps this season. They have won their last three matches and that has got them to 8-6 for the year. Two more wins will take them to 10-6 and while they would not be guaranteed a spot in the postseason with only one wildcard left up for grabs in the AFC, they would put themselves in a good position to make it into January.

At this stage of the year you think back to the Wembley clash against the Chargers when they went for two to win rather than kick for overtime and all of a sudden that looks a huge decision now. In order for that not to decide their fate, Marcus Mariota will need to continue to be solid with the ball in hand because his defence are doing the business presently.

Washington Redskins

Everything looked to be going smoothly for the Washington Redskins earlier in the season. They were 6-4 after 10 matches, Alex Smith was doing Alex Smith things, the defence was functioning nicely and they were on top of the NFC East. Things have come crashing down since then however. Smith suffered a potentially career threatening injury, further injuries have come along too and now they are 7-7 for the campaign.

Colt McCoy took over at quarterback for the Redskins but he has also come down with an injury leaving Josh Johnson behind center and he delivered a vital win at the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. That is something to build on here but in truth I think all will appreciate that they will need to be better here but with that victory behind them we might see them get a little more expansive here.

Betting

I think home advantage, the more reliable quarterback and some real winning form behind them will allow the Tennessee Titans to win this match but the contest feels much bigger than them to be covering a 10.5pt head start. That is a tough ask at any stage of a season when a team has something to play for let alone a match like this which is quite simply huge.

I’m not convinced that Washington Redskins are going to win this match by any means but they have enough in their defence to keep Tennessee honest so if the likes of Jordan Reed and Adrian Peterson can make a few plays they can stay within 10.5pts at the very least, if not achieve a little more than that.
