The second full round of fixtures in Sky Bet League 1 takes place on Saturday afternoon and it could be a pivotal day in the race for promotion to the Championship, with two of the top three in the table battling each other.
Many teams have plenty to play for heading into the day so there is a big feeling about the afternoon. Both ends of the table could have a different feel to it come 5pm when all the matches have been completed.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Bristol Rovers
Barnsley v Bradford City
Burton Albion v Gillingham
Coventry City v AFC Wimbledon
Fleetwood Town v Oxford United
Peterborough United v Rochdale
Portsmouth v Blackpool
Shrewsbury Town v Charlton Athletic
Southend United v Plymouth Argyle
Sunderland v Luton Town
Walsall v Scunthorpe United
Wycombe Wanderers v Doncaster Rovers
Big Matches
You do not have to look too long at the fixture list to see the big match of the day as the clash between Sunderland in third and Luton Town in second at the Stadium of Light is massive. All eyes will be on Luton to see how they react to the departure of Nathan Jones. Leaders Portsmouth have a tricky test to negotiate at home to Blackpool while Barnsley in fifth take on a resurgent Bradford City side at Oakwell.
Best of the Rest
Charlton Athletic held Sunderland last week and head to Shrewsbury Town looking to stay fourth in the table while Doncaster, who occupy the last playoff spot, head to a fading Wycombe Wanderers side. Peterborough will be looking to get their campaign back on track when they host Rochdale. Burton Albion will look to put their mauling at Man City behind them when they host Gillingham. AFC Wimbledon will look to come off the bottom of the pile when they go to the Ricoh Arena to play Coventry City.

Betting
I like two bets over the course of Saturday. You wouldn’t be very rich if you were to back Peterborough United in every home match this season but the importance of beating Rochdale at London Road shouldn’t be lost on anyone there. They have done some good early business bringing Lee Tomlin and Kyle Dempsey in which should be the boost that they need. They might not even need that for this one as the trap door in the Rochdale defence has come right off its hinges. They are leaking goals at a crazy rate and one thing Peterborough have in them is goals. Rochdale will get back on the straight and narrow eventually but they might be getting Posh at the wrong time here. I’ll take the home side in this one.
Doncaster Rovers are in decent nick right now and head to a refreshed Wycombe looking for a win which could move them up to fourth in the table. Wycombe haven’t played since New Year’s Day but they were facing the prospect of losing some loan players and other players whose contracts weren’t set in stone and Alex Samuel picked up a nasty looking injury last time out. Rovers are playing very nicely and are one of the better teams in the league on their travels. Wycombe have lost their last four and that could well be five come Saturday evening.
