There is a midweek round of fixtures in the Premier League this week and they get underway on Tuesday when the chasing pack look to close in on the leaders Liverpool, who are not in action until Wednesday night.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United will be looking to enhance their positions in the top four or the title race while at the other end of the table the bottom five will all be going in search of much needed points.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Arsenal vs Cardiff
Fulham vs Brighton
Huddersfield vs Everton
Wolves vs West Ham
Man Utd vs Burnley (8pm)
Newcastle vs Man City (8pm)
Big Matches
All eyes will be on St James’ Park to see if Manchester City can pile the pressure onto Liverpool by closing the gap to just one point with a victory over Newcastle United. Manchester United will look to make it nine wins on the spin under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when they host Burnley at Old Trafford while Arsenal will go up against a Cardiff City side who will be looking for a result in their quest for safety.
Best of the Rest
Time is beginning to run out for Huddersfield Town, who begin the Jan Seifert era by hosting Everton on Tuesday night. The other two matches sees Fulham, in a similar detriment to Huddersfield, playing host to a dogged but poor travelling Brighton side while Wolves host West Ham in what might be an entertaining affair at Molineux despite both having less than ideal results against League 1 opponents at the weekend.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets where I’m expecting a couple of big home wins for the better sides against struggling teams. The first of those is Arsenal who should have way too much for Cardiff City. I don’t trust this Arsenal defence though so I’m going to take over 3 goals in this match. If we are being honest this Arsenal attack could easily score three times themselves to guarantee us at least a push and probably a fourth to get us the win but with the injuries mounting up in the Gunners’ back line then Cardiff should threaten the net themselves. Cardiff can’t go to Arsenal and sit back and frustrate. They need the points so I’m expecting them to have a go at certain points which should lead us beyond three goals.
I’m also expecting Manchester United to continue their good recent form when they host a Burnley side who just can’t keep the ball out of their own net when they travel to the big teams. Twice they have leaked five at Man City this season while Arsenal put three past them recently. United were in the middle of their poor start to the campaign when these two met for the first time and they still beat Burnley 2-0. They are a whole lot better at both ends of the pitch now and I only see an easy home win here. Burnley will be game opponents but their safety will be sealed against those around them. I fancy United to have too much for them here.
