We are heading towards the three quarter mark in Sky Bet League 1 over the course of February and the big month begins with all 24 sides in action on a potentially busy day of action in the third tier on Saturday, should the weather allow it.
There are some key matches at the top of the table and plenty more at the bottom of it on Saturday as yet again we come across a pretty pivotal day in the division. We should factor in that some of these matches may fall foul of the weather.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Blackpool
Barnsley v Scunthorpe United
Burton Albion v Oxford United
Coventry City v Gillingham
Fleetwood Town v Charlton Athletic
Peterborough United v Plymouth Argyle
Portsmouth v Doncaster Rovers
Shrewsbury Town v Luton Town
Southend United v Bristol Rovers
Sunderland v AFC Wimbledon
Walsall v Rochdale
Wycombe Wanderers v Bradford City
Big Matches
Luton Town are in amazing form at the minute and their victory in that compelling contest at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night has opened up a five point gap in their advantage at the top of the table. They will look to protect that, and maybe even build on it, when they head to Shrewsbury Town. Portsmouth will be out to make up for that loss when they play host to dangerous Doncaster Rovers while Barnsley host a form side in Scunthorpe United. Charlton Athletic in fourth head to a Fleetwood Town team who might not have given up on the play-offs just yet.
Best of the Rest
Sunderland will look to break out of a drawing run when they take on the bottom side in the league in AFC Wimbledon at the Stadium of Light. Peterborough United are clinging on to sixth place and they host Plymouth Argyle in a match where both teams need points. At the wrong end of the table, Bristol Rovers go to Southend United and Bradford City make the trip to Wycombe Wanderers. Rochdale head to Walsall needing a positive result.

Betting
Given all the changes that have been made to squads over the last few days I’m going to give them a week or so to bed in and not go too made this weekend. There is one bet that I like which I’ll take but largely it is a wait for better opportunities week, as it so often is at this time of the season in the lower leagues.
Southend United are the team I like. If you look at their last 11 matches you’ll know they are due to win this but that isn’t the reason why I like them. I thought they dug in fairly well against a rampant Luton side last week and had it not been for Luton’s excellent defence they may well have got back into the match. They take on a Bristol Rovers team who don’t carry the same defensive skills and who went 90 tough minutes with Peterborough United on a heavy pitch in awful conditions on Tuesday night while Southend had their feet up. The Gas heads have come off their good recent form enough for me to think Southend can win this.
