2018-19 Indian Open Snooker – Day 3 Betting Preview

The third day of action in the Indian Open sees the second round of the tournament being played out across a couple of sessions of play over in Kochi, ahead of the busy conclusion to the event over the weekend.

In the main the majority of top players made it through the first task of the week which means we have some decent enough matches to enjoy on Friday. Half of the 16 games are on various live streams which gives us plenty of chance to watch the action.

Morning Session

Joe Perry will be on one of the streamed tables in the first round of matches on Friday. He takes on Li Hang while there is an all-Chinese battle on the other one as Yan Bingtao looks to make it into the last 16 when he goes up against Lu Ning. It is a bit of a low key session as it goes because elsewhere Andy Hicks plays Eden Sharav and Luke Simmonds goes up against Lyu Haotian.

It is a better second part of the morning though with one of the main matches seeing the defending champion John Higgins taking on our pre-tournament bet Hossein Vafaei on one of the main tables with the Shootout champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh playing Graeme Dott on the other. Peter Ebdon goes up against Sam Craigie in a good looking match while Anthony Hamilton faces Zhao Xintong in the other.

Afternoon Session

Shaun Murphy and Stuart Bingham are the big names given the task of opening up the later session on the main table. Bingham goes up against John Astley while Murphy faces Chris Wakelin. Mark Davis meets Yuan Sijun on one of the other tables and the other match beginning the later session sees Craig Steadman playing Scott Donaldson.

Luca Brecel will be the star name on show in the final set of matches on Friday. He plays Andrew Higginson on one of the main tables with Matt Selt meeting Joe Swail on the other one. The other two matches offer a big chance to the players involved. Oliver Lines plays Soheil Vahedi and Elliot Slessor’s reward for a good win over Dave Gilbert on Thursday is a battle with James Cahill.

Betting

I’ll go with another couple of bets on Friday with the first coming in the later morning session where I think Thepchaiya Un-Nooh can continue his good run by beating Graeme Dott. The Thai gained another win over Michael Holt in the first round here whereas Dott never played and I think the match getting used to the conditions will be a boost for the Shootout champion. Dott is a solid sort but he might need a bit of time to adjust to the slower conditions here. Un-Nooh will know how the table plays and given the form he is in as well the odds against on him winning is big enough for me.

Later in the day Shaun Murphy just has to be taken on when he goes up against Chris Wakelin. Murphy’s form struggles have been well documented and while he has won a couple of matches here this week he hasn’t played anyone of note and hasn’t done anything particularly outstanding either. Wakelin is a solid player who can score pretty well when he is given the chance to. This is more of a fade of Murphy but Wakelin does have a win over Ronnie O’Sullivan on his CV over this distance so he can play. He’s heavily overpriced at 9/5.
