It is the final day of the Indian Open on Sunday and heading into it four men can still come away with a ranking event title and a decent first prize to stick onto their world ranking. We have the semi-finals and final left on a busy day of action out in Kochi.
The semi-finals roll on and off in the earlier session before the final takes place in the afternoon, UK time. We will not be able to preview the final due to time restrictions but we’ll have a look at both the semi-finals here.

John Higgins vs Matt Selt
It is very much experience against inexperience at this level of a tournament in the opening semi-final as John Higgins, two wins away from successfully defending his title, takes on a man who is appearing in his first ranking event semi-final in Matt Selt.
It would be stretching the truth to say that Higgins has looked wonderful this week but he has got the job done and I expect him to do the same again here. Selt actually has a half decent overall record against Higgins and should take a bit of belief off the back of that but Higgins usually goes up a notch from here onwards in a tournament and if he does that he’ll have enough to see off Selt. There’s nothing that stands out for me in this first semi-final.

Lu Haotian vs Anthony Hamilton
The second semi-final is arguably bigger than the first one because whoever wins it will have a significant improvement in their world ranking with the winner having the chance to improve it even more, not to mention win a major title and the benefits that come with that. Lu Haotian takes on Anthony Hamilton in a big match for both.
Haotian will be looking for a spot in a first world ranking final so this is a big afternoon for him whereas Hamilton has been to the final of a couple of tournaments and has won one so he knows what this is all about and will be able to prepare accordingly. His tour place is in a little bit of jeopardy so this is a pretty big match for Hamilton.
Haotian has done well to make it this far and I’m taking nothing away from him but at the same time in his four matches he has played a couple of amateurs so he hasn’t had the hardest draw. Hamilton has played a tougher run and he has come alive in the scoring department with a 50 break in every frame he won on Saturday. I think he’s playing the better of the two and can make the final from this one.
