Another extremely entertaining weekend in Major League Soccer concludes on Sunday evening when the new boys FC Cincinnati are back in action when they face last season’s Western Conference table toppers Sporting Kansas City.
Both these sides have made encouraging beginnings to their campaigns and have the opportunity to push further forward in their quests for reaching the postseason. This match is live on Sky for those of us who are in the UK which gives us a nice way to follow the action.
FC Cincinnati
As starts to life in MLS go, it hasn’t been a bad one for FC Cincinnati and if they can pick up another home win here then they will set themselves up nicely in their maiden Eastern Conference campaign. Last week’s loss to Philadelphia Union came as a surprise but they have a couple of wins and a draw from five matches, which is perfectly acceptable for a new team in the league.
The encouraging thing for Cincinnati even this early into the season is that they have only failed to score once in their five games. This is a high scoring league and if you can’t compete in that discipline then you need snookers before you start. They need to up their game defensively but they are more than capable of that too.
Sporting Kansas City
It has been a week of two extremes for Sporting Kansas City. It began with one of the more dominant performances we’ve seen in MLS for quite some time when they thrashed Montreal Impact 7-1 but then it took an amazing turn in midweek, when they were walloped 5-0 by Monterrey in the Champions League semi-final.
The only positive from that display in midweek with regards to this match is that they can fully concentrate on this game because they have no chance of turning that tie around. They have begun their MLS campaign pretty well to be fair. Their only defeat came to LAFC and they look awesome so far this season. A win here would move them up to fourth in the table.
Team News
FC Cincinnati have question marks over three key men for this contest with Kendall Waston, Fanendo Adi and Przemyslaw Tyton all rated questionable for the match although they are not believed to be fit.
Sporting Kansas City will be without a couple of forward options in Erik Hurtado and Daniel Salloi. They could decide to rotate their side after the physical exertions of their Champions League tie in midweek.

Betting
If I knew for sure that Waston and Adi would be around for FC Cincinnati then I would take them to win this match but the fact that they are unlikely to be makes me think the best bet in the match lies elsewhere, in the goal market for example, where I like over 2.5 goals to land, in what I still think will be an end-to-end type of game.
We’ve seen both sides of Sporting KC this week. We’ve seen their excellence in attack and we’ve seen their weakness in defence and FC Cincinnati have much the same traits. Both sides are likely to approach this having a go and looking to win having made positive starts to the season so over 2.5 goals looks fine to me.
