We are heading towards another weekend double header of action in the Indian Premier League but before we get there we have one match in the competition on Friday. That comes from Eden Gardens as the Kolkata Knight Riders host the Delhi Capitals.
Both these takes have made acceptable beginnings to their campaign and now is the time for the pair of them to push on and launch an assault on a spot in the top four ahead of the postseason. With this match and another on Sunday it is a big few days for each side.
Kolkata Knight Riders
It has been a thrilling first half of the season to watch for the Kolkata Knight Riders but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind being a bit duller to guarantee more wins. They have won four of their first six matches but go into this one off the back of a disappointing loss to the Chennai Super Kings, where not even Andre Russell could get them out of trouble with the bat.
To be fair to them, that was the only match their batting has left them down so far and if they get back to their belligerent ways with the willow here they will give themselves every chance. They only have two losses on their slate this term, with the reverse meeting with the Delhi Capitals being the other one. They lost that in a super over and will be out to get revenge in this one.
Delhi Capitals
It has been a strange season for the Delhi Capitals thus far. It is almost like they have taken it upon themselves to take every match as close as possible no matter what the outcome is. They have three wins from six matches so far but they won’t need telling there were one or two more matches that they let get away from them due to inexperience and a lack of a senior man taking responsibility.
Delhi have everything in their ranks to be a champion side in this competition but it means nothing if they don’t show composure when it is needed. They have been guilty of not finishing their batting innings very well so far, but if they can start to do that better I’m expecting them to win a lot more than they lose over the rest of the campaign.
Team News
All eyes will be on the Kolkata team sheet to see if Andre Russell is fit to play. He didn’t look in a good way at the end of his innings in Chennai so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise were Carlos Brathwaite to be in for him.
Delhi Capitals aren’t blessed with batting options so it would be a surprise if they are not unchanged, unless they want to bring an extra seamer in on what is a pretty small Eden Gardens ground. Ishant Sharma could be the man to come in.

Betting
Eden Gardens is another ground where I’m not massively keen on betting on the outcome before we know the way the toss goes, although the way the last two nights have gone I’m not sure I would want to bet on the match outcome anyway. Therefore once again I’ll be heading to the side markets for a bet on the game.
That comes in the form of the sixes where bookmakers might have overreacted to a couple of strange tracks around the IPL this season. There has been nothing wrong with this Eden Gardens track though and as such we’ve had two high scoring matches on this ground with 17 and 24 sixes in total. Delhi are not short of six hitters and we’ve seen Kolkata hit them all the way down so I like the idea of there being more than 14.5 of them here. This line was safely covered on a much bigger ground with an iffier wicket in Delhi when the two met there. It can be covered here too.
