The second round of matches in the Ireland tri-nations series gets going in Dublin on Saturday when the host side Ireland take on West Indies for the second time in the tournament. Having not won either of their first two matches the home team could really do with a win here.
West Indies have had an easy win and a tame defeat in the competition so far and with the World Cup getting ever closer they will be looking for much more of the former here rather than anymore morale denting defeats.

Ireland
To be fair to Ireland they had a day to forget the first time these two sides met. That came out of nowhere in many ways because they had been very competitive against England a couple of days beforehand. As it was they just ran into a sensational partnership, the sort that do not get put together very often, so while they shouldn’t forget their disappointment, they can largely file it as one of those things.
The defeat did show up a couple of things though. It shows that they can improve with the bat when they are facing such a daunting total and it highlights that there is still a lot more they can do with the ball, although I suspect they knew that anyway, despite coming so close to pulling off a big win against England just last week. Defeat here could end Ireland’s chances in this tournament so this is a key game.
West Indies
Just when you thought the West Indies were getting up a head of steam in this format and expect them to take control of competitions like this one, they throw in another shocking batting performance and fell to a pretty ordinary defeat to Bangladesh in their second match of the series. Those poor batting displays are much more infrequent than they used to be but they have to get them out of their system before the World Cup.
We saw in the win over Ireland that the West Indies bowling is more than good enough but against Bangladesh the unit never really got going and paid the price accordingly. The Caribbean men will hope that defeat will act as the wake up call that they need to get everything sorted both for the remainder of this series and the huge World Cup to come.
Team News
Ireland are expected to bring Boyd Rankin back into their ranks. Tim Murtagh has challenged with the new ball but doesn’t have much pace and hasn’t been taking wickets which makes him vulnerable in the set up.
West Indies were without John Campbell due to injury in their previous match but the hero of the opening game of the tournament is expected to return. He will come back for Shane Dowrich with Sunil Ambris dropping back down the order.

Betting
I fancy we will see a few runs in this match because conditions should suit both batting line ups. Ireland’s bowling attack is not potent enough to restrict this West Indies batting outfit as we saw in the opening match but Ireland should have enough to score runs on what is likely to be a slow wicket after all the rain that has been around in the build up to the contest.
The runs line for this match is 501.5 so if the West Indies bat first you’ve got to think they will get rid of a serious chunk of that but should Ireland bat first and be beaten we would only need them to get up to 251. They are both scenarios I can see happening so the obvious pick in this match is to take the over on that total runs line.
