The second set of knockout matches in the Africa Cup of Nations takes place on Saturday evening with four big countries in this part of the world battling it out for a couple of spots in the quarter finals of the tournament.
We get to see how the hosts Egypt handle the pressure of knockout football on home soil for the first time this year in the second of the two matches, while two powerhouses from this part of the world meet in the opening game.
Nigeria vs Cameroon (17.00)
The opening match of the day is probably the pick of the entire set of games in the last 16 of the tournament as former winners Nigeria take on the defending champions Cameroon in what should be a high quality match.
I’m expecting a nervy affair to start with but with the attacking players on show I’m hoping it opens up at some point although I have to admit, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this one ends up going the distance and it is settled on spot kicks. There is a very good chance that both sides will choose not to take risks so it is hard to find a way in here. Either to win on penalties is tempting but I feel the match is better left alone.
Egypt vs South Africa (20.00)
All eyes will be on the hosts Egypt in the second match as they look to remain at their own party. They face a South Africa side whose win over Namibia in the group stage saw them in as the last of the best third placed teams.
South Africa showed in that group stage that they can be competitive. Although they lost to both Morocco and Ivory Coast, they only went down 1-0 on each occasion so they are capable of keeping it tight in this tournament. Egypt are yet to be breached in this competition so you’ve got to think this will be a relatively low scoring match but if the hosts harbour hopes of winning the event then they should be having too much for teams like South Africa inside the 90 minutes. I’m happy to combine Egypt winning and there not being more than 3.5 goals in this one.
Tips
Back Egypt to beat South Africa and under 3.5 goals for a 4/10 stake at 1.95 with Coral
