2019 Vitality Blast – Saturday 24th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

Things are getting pretty serious in the Vitality Blast heading into the final week of group matches where there is still plenty on the line and on Saturday we have two matches which could shape the future of the South Group.

One of them takes place in the afternoon which is actually the more important of the two games but the second one will be shown live on the TV once the Test match play has finished, assuming the aftermath of that runs smoothly. We’ll kick off with the TV game even though it is the later start.

Somerset vs Glamorgan (19.00)

It is a big night for Somerset in front of their own fans, especially after they went down at Gloucestershire on Friday night. They will go into the top four if they beat a Glamorgan side who are winless and judging by their squad have accepted that their priorities lie elsewhere from here on in, should Middlesex lose the other match.

Somerset haven’t been as consistent as they would have liked in this competition just yet, especially when you think how well they have played in the other two formats, but they are still pushing for a quarter final spot. Glamorgan have been terrible in this competition this season. They usually are very good or pathetic with little in between and it has been very much the latter here.

Somerset are short priced favourites to win this match which is perfectly fair when we see the bowling mite Glamorgan have left out of their side but they have retained all their best batsmen so I’m expecting a high scoring contest here. That should, in theory at least, bring the sixes into play. This is a small ground and both batting line ups have plenty of fireworks in them. The likes of Colin Ingram haven’t fired for Glamorgan yet but he’s due. The line is 10.5 here but I’m expecting that to be covered and some.

Middlesex vs Sussex (14.30)

The other match on the card on Saturday is probably much bigger in terms of the fact that Middlesex are fourth in the table and looking to go second when they take on a Sussex side who lead the way in the South Group and who could seal a quarter final berth if they come out on top here.

With that in mind it is slightly unfortunate that this one takes place at Uxbridge rather than Lord’s but it should still be a good game none the less. Sussex skittled Middlesex for next to nothing in the County Championship last week and will be hoping for a repeat of that here although history would tell us that this is a high scoring ground and one where the batsmen can make hay.

I’m tempted by over 321.5 runs here and I expect it to land but Middlesex have offered up a couple of shoddy batting performances recently. Both these attacks are legitimate too so there is enough to offer up a reason as to why it won’t come in which will see me keeping my powder dry.
