CPL 2019 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Barbados Tridents Tips and Betting Preview

A place in the top two of the Caribbean Premier League table is at stake on Wednesday night when the competition continues at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Just three regular season matches remain now and each one has its own story to tell.

Trinbago Knight Riders continue the defence of their title against the Barbados Tridents with the winners giving themselves a strong chance of a second go at reaching the final when the play-offs come around.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The defending champions are in the middle of a bit of a slump, one that they will be eager to come out of here if they can. This is their last home game of the season and a win will guarantee they finish second in the table while defeat will mean they have to win in Guyana in their last match in order to give themselves two bites at the cherry at making the final when we get into the postseason come the weekend.

As we said before their last game, the Trinbago Knight Riders really need to discover their touch with the ball again because you can’t be needing to chase massive scores come the knockout stages. No team is built to be hitting 190+ under pressure of having to win. The struggles with the ball is beginning to have an impact on their batting as well and when that combination comes along it is never a good sign.

Barbados Tridents

The Barbados Tridents are guaranteed a play-off spot regardless of what happens here but a win will elevate them into second spot and would pile the pressure on the Knight Riders to win their final match in order to deny them a place in the top two. Given that they are assured of a play-off spot they can have a free go at this and look to be as dangerous as they can be. It might be that we get their best performance here.

Unlike their opponents in this match, the Barbados Tridents’ bowling has been very good in the competition but concerns still remain over their batting line up, They have only passed 150 once in their last five matches and in this competition you’re not going to win too many matches against the better sides with scores in that range. If they can find some batting form though they might just have the second best attack in the competition which is no bad thing.

Team News

Trinbago Knight Riders will be hoping that Sunil Narine is fit to feature in this match. The reason for his absence last time out was not declared but they certainly need him. Colin Munro could make way as his form has disappeared.

Barbados Tridents remain without Sandeep Lamichhane but Harry Gurney has been a revelation since he came into the side. Shakib-al-Hasan joined up with the side prior to the last match and will be a key man too.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets in this match. I’ve a feeling the Barbados Tridents are overpriced here at 11/8. I had a feeling they could emerge as the dark horses late on in this tournament and I’m prepared to put my money where my mouth is in that regard here. There is undoubtedly a concern over their batting but if they are going to free up at any time it will be here with not a huge amount on it and against a bowling attack haemorrhaging runs for fun. Barbados are getting tighter and tighter with the ball and 11/8 is a big price with that attack which looks perfect for these conditions.

I also like under 325.5 runs here as well. Trinbago Knight Riders have just started to stop scoring the big runs we associate them with and they might struggle to go well with the willow against the Tridents bowling attack and in truth this ground isn’t one for the truly high scores we’ve seen in the past. Two batting line ups lacking confidence and a high class bowling attack on one side should mean that we don’t see more than 325.5 runs here.
