Sunday is Decision Day in the MLS with the final two spots in the postseason to be confirmed on what is the final day of action in the regular season in the leading competition in America. Everything is on the line here.
One match will play out a big bearing in the final places up for grabs in the play-offs in the Western Conference and that is the one on TV. There are still seedings to be determined across both Conferences on the last night of normality.

Big Matches
The eyes of the competition will be on Providence Park to see if the Portland Timbers can get the point they need to secure their spot in the postseason once again. They host the San Jose Earthquakes who will be in the play-offs themselves if they can come out of their recent slump and find a win. FC Dallas are the other side in jeopardy of missing out but they will definitely be in if they can win their home match against Sporting Kansas City. Colorado Rapids can get in if they beat LAFC but that is a tough ask in itself and it would still require a miracle.
Best of the Rest
LA Galaxy will give themselves home advantage in the first round of the play-offs if they can see off the Houston Dynamo. If they can’t then a Real Salt Lake win against Vancouver Whitecaps would move them in front in that particular race. Over in the Eastern Conference, DC United are ahead in the race for the final home spot in the first round. They will keep it if they can beat FC Cincinnati but if they can’t they open the door to the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC who play Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew respectively.
Betting
Just the one match catches my eye in terms of a bet over the course of the night. It saves us having to question motivation and everything else as well because it comes in the match between the Portland Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes. This is like a knockout match in itself. San Jose Earthquakes will need to win to guarantee being in and that opens up all kinds of possibilities.
The first goal in this match is going to change the dynamic of it alarmingly If Portland get it San Jose will have to open up because they’ll need a couple of goals at least and if San Jose get it then Portland are likely to have to score so they’ll have to become more expansive. That should see the game turn into an end-to-end battle, one which can have more than 3 goals.
