NFL 2021 – New York Giants @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

As always the final match of any week in the NFL 2021 season comes in the Monday Night Football which this week sees the champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers in action when they welcome the New York Giants to the Raymond James Stadium.

The Buccaneers caught fire around this stage of the season last year and will be hoping to use this outing as a catalyst for doing that again while the Giants have been a mess for a while but have shown shoots of life in recent weeks suggesting this might be more competitive than it looked a month ago.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I think it is fair to say that people were just about ready to pencil the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in for another trip to the Super Bowl when they opened up the season 6-1 for their first seven matches. They have hit the skids since then however. They have lost both their matches either side of the bye week and now enter this match with a 6-3 record. That is still enough to lead the way in the NFC South but the chasing pack aren’t a million miles away now.

Both those losses have come on the road so the Bucs will be delighted to be playing at home here. They are undefeated on their own patch this season. The slight concern for Bucs fans is that Brady has thrown a couple of interceptions in those two defeats. He is operating without a couple of key receiving weapons in the form of Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski which might be influencing him. They have shipped 65 points in defeats to the New Orleans Saints and Washington Football Team – two sides who aren’t renowned for being high scoring teams.

New York Giants

The Giants come out of their bye week for this match. They start out with a 3-6 record but it is questionable whether the bye came at a good time for them. They had won two of their last three matches going into it and ran the Kansas City Chiefs close in the other, but at the same time a lot of the reason why they are 3-6 this term is because of the injuries they have had, especially on offense, so the week off has allowed them to get players back and build a stronger offense to take to Florida for this one.

You would imagine that the Giants will naturally improve on offense when they get players back healthy and up to full speed. It is to their advantage that the bye week has allowed them to get wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay back for this one and there is a chance that Saquon Barkley will return for this one too. The positive for the Giants in recent times is that their defence is coming on strong, particularly against the pass which will be necessary against this opponent.

Betting

I fully expect the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win this match but an 11.5 spread looks a little bit of an ask. I admit that the Kansas City Chiefs have exploded on offense after they met the New York Giants but even then they could only put up 20 points on this Giants defence and although you would imagine the Buccaneers will fare better in that regard, their primary aim will be purely just winning rather than running up the score after a couple of successive losses.

The Giants look like they are going to be in a better shape offensively than when they met the Chiefs and have the confidence of a couple of wins either side of that. If Saquon Barkley plays they can control the clock a little better but there have been signs of the Tampa Bay defence really struggling in recent weeks so Daniel Jones might well be able to pick their secondary apart with receivers back. I wouldn’t like to say with any certainty that the Giants will win this match but I do think they have enough on both sides of the ball to stay within 11.5pts.
