The main focus of another exciting Sunday in the NFL for those of us in the UK is on Wembley Stadium but while the Rams and the Bengals are battling it out there will be plenty more matches taking place across the pond in the usual two kick off times.
There are two TV matches for us in the early games on Sunday and then the ones not on TV in the UK will have all the updates and important action on the RedZone programme so there is no need to miss any of the action.
1pm Kick Offs (5pm UK time)
The majority of the matches in the NFL Sunday games take place at this time. The televised match is the Wembley one which we’ve previewed elsewhere and amazingly despite there being eight other games away from London, there is not a single divisional game among them and neither is there a match between two sides with a winning record.
What we do have is the Indianapolis Colts hosting the Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints welcoming the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Dome. The Jacksonville Jaguars go up against the New York Jets in one of the other matches while the New York Giants head to the Detroit Lions. Chicago Bears will look to fire their season into life when they host the Los Angeles Chargers while the Buffalo Bills will face the Philadelphia Eagles. The other match sees the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Seattle Seahawks.
4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (8.05/8.25pm UK time)
When the Wembley match has concluded we will have another TV match to watch in the later of the two kick off slots. That sees the runaway leaders of the NFC West, San Francisco 49ers hosting the Carolina Panthers who are on a decent run of form right now and who take a 4-2 record to Levi’s Stadium with them.
Two other matches are part of this time slot and one of them will see the New England Patriots looking to maintain their perfect start to the season when they take on the team that were all the hype before the campaign started in the form of the Cleveland Browns. The other match sees the 4-3 Houston Texans going up against the Oakland Raiders in what should be an offensive match up.
Betting
I’ll go with three bets here with the first of them on Seattle Seahawks to cover 7.5pts in Atlanta where it looks to me like the Atlanta Falcons have given up on the season and looking to next term after trading Mohammed Sanu away. If that wasn’t enough they are without Matt Ryan for this contest so the home side look like sitting ducks against a Falcons side who have enough on defence to make Matt Schaub beat them without using Julio Jones. Seattle can run the ball but Russell Wilson is having an elite season as a quarterback. I think the Seahawks have a big win in them here.
As an underdog I like the Los Angeles Chargers to come close to the Chicago Bears. I don’t think it would surprise too many judges if the Chargers actually win this match. Their 2-5 record looks ordinary but they are a bit better than that and with a bit of luck they could even have been going into this match with a 4-3 record at the very least. I think the Chicago Bears are fair at 3-3 and for as good as their defence is on paper, they haven’t been delivering the goods on the pitch. This is a big match for both sides and each of them will be looking to win. That suggests it will be quite tight so the Chargers with the 3.5 start is the way forward.
Finally I like the San Francisco 49ers to cover 4.5pts against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are on a four match winning streak under Kyle Allen who has the start here but in none of them have they come up against a side with the defence that the San Francisco 49ers have. The Niners have overcome any fears about lacking on offense and fully deserve their undefeated record heading into this match. This one should be a great watch given that both sides are full of confidence but when all is said and done I think it will be the 49ers who have a bit to spare in winning.
