The final match of the day in the NFL comes in the Sunday Night Football where we have what looked to be a potential classic between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers but which may not live up to that with the news that Patrick Mahomes will miss the match.
Without a doubt these are two of the best sides in the NFL at present but it remains to be seen just what impact the Mahomes absence has. Both these sides will be eyeing up the Super Bowl so we could see them again in Miami.
Kansas City Chiefs
Matt Moore will be the main man for the Kansas City Chiefs in the absence of Patrick Mahomes. He came in for the latter stages of their win over the Denver Broncos last week and didn’t do a whole lot wrong but at the same time he didn’t do much that was special either. The Chiefs are going to need him to be more than just effective here though because they are up against a good side and have key injuries on both sides of the ball, not just to Mahomes.
Given the injuries that Kansas City have defensively you would think that their offense is going to need to win them this match so the likes of LeSean McCoy, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill are going to have to really stand up and support their quarterback. In truth the Chiefs defence isn’t necessarily the best even when everyone is available so they face a really tough ask here it has to be said.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have been excellent this season in establishing a 6-1 record and they will be looking to showcase their credentials on the big stage once again. Initially it was their defence which got the job done for them but the longer the season has gone on, the better their offense has looked and now they look a very good side on both sides of the ball which bodes well for them. Aaron Rodgers is getting better and better all the time so the Packers look in a great spot right now.
In terms of names, this might not be the best Green Bay offense known to man but when you have the great Aaron Rodgers under center that doesn’t really matter. The Packers have scored at least 27pts in four of their last five matches which highlights how they are warming up but their only loss came to a vibrant offense in Philadelphia Eagles so they need to be wary with that in mind.
Betting
In my eyes there are just too many injuries on this Kansas City Chiefs roster to believe they can get anything out of this match. In a way it is the losses on defence that might be more damaging to them because Aaron Rodgers can take any defence apart let alone one that is ravaged by players missing. The question in my eyes is how many could Green Bay Packers win by.
Given the news that Mahomes is out is well documented I’m a little surprised that the Packers are only being asked to give up 4.5pts. I’m pretty confident that the Green Bay offense will go well in this match and their defence should make plays against a limited quarterback even allowing for the fact that he has some useful weapons. I’ll go with the Packers to cover the spread in this one.
