The Monday Night Football this week comes from the Coliseum as two of the best teams to watch in the entire National Football League go at it when the Los Angeles Rams take on the Baltimore Ravens in a blockbuster match to end week 12 of the campaign.
The Rams are in the mix for a wildcard spot in the NFC while the Ravens are playing for the number two seed in the AFC so this is a pretty big match for both sides, not just because it is in one of the primetime slots.
Los Angeles Rams
The beaten Super Bowl side from last season have not found it as easy this term, something that we see quite often these days, but they still have a winning 6-4 record and have actually won three of their last four games. It is hard to argue that the Rams were at their best throughout that run, but at this stage of the season it is all about winning matches, so we can’t really criticise them too much for doing that.
The obvious criticism if you do want to level one at them is the fact they haven’t really beaten anything in that spell, but you can only beat what is in front of you. What we do know is this Rams defence has upped its game since the arrival of Jalen Ramsey, and it was pretty good anyway, and if their offense catches fire they can yet make the playoffs. With that in mind, it is very much a positive that Todd Gurley got into a groove last week.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens head down to California with an 8-2 record and seemingly on fire at the present time. In their last three outings they have been the only side to beat the New England Patriots and then put up 40pts in each of their last two games. They are on a six game winning streak and there is a clear case to be made that they are the hottest team in American Football right now, despite their defence not quite being the tightest.
The main reason for that is the amazing form of Lamar Jackson, who in my eyes at least is a clear leader in the race to be the MVP this season. His running ability has teams quaking in their boots and he is improving by the game as a passer. The Ravens have one of the best running games in the league and an exciting offense that looks very hard to contain. If they can keep Gurley quiet and make Goff beat them the Ravens could make it a magnificent seven wins.
Betting
I’m always a little wary about taking road sides in this league but I’m just not sure how the Baltimore Ravens and their offense can be stopped. The only way you are going to beat them at the minute is to outscore them but I’m not sure the Los Angeles Rams have the offense to do that, and even if they do I’m far from convinced enough players on that side of the ball are playing well enough to do it.
The line for the spread on the Ravens here is three points and I expect them to cover that. If they get ahead they can be a tough nut to crack because they can kill the clock with the run and if they need a special play at any point Jackson has it in him. If this comes down to a battle of the quarterbacks there really is only one winner so I’m happy to be on the Ravens to cover a field goal in this one.
