It is the final day of action in the second week of the entertaining Icons of Darts league on Saturday, and although the overall winner looks to be a formality, the five men on show will all be out to end the week with a daily success.
We have Fallon Sherrock entering the mix next week but before then we are likely to see another competitive afternoon of darts, in keeping with what has been the trend the longer this week has gone on.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartshop.tv.

Friday Recap
Once again we had a group settled on leg difference on Friday, and for those who have followed us all week annoyingly it was Jarred Cole who came out on top courtesy of a real up and down day for Jason Askew, who lost out on leg difference for the third day in succession. Paul Nicholson went from hero to zero with no wins from his four matches, while there were solid efforts from Andy Jenkins and Rob Collins, who both bagged a couple of wins.
It was a second profitable day in succession for us in this competition as Jason Askew didn’t just beat Andy Jenkins but absolutely battered him 5-0 in what was the best performance in any of these home leagues so far. That levelled out some of the disappointment from seeing Cole win the group the day after we were on him at a monster price.
Saturday Line Up
It is Rob Collins who has run his race for the week and he sits out the final day. Arron Monk comes in for him knowing he needs a near perfect day if he is to walk off as the champion at the end of the week. Jason Askew is likely to be the favourite to come out on top even though he seems to have a bout of seconditis to his name in recent times. The experienced pair of Paul Nicholson and Andy Jenkins join Friday’s winner Jarred Cole to make up what should be a competitive quintet on show.

Outright Betting
After being frustrated by watching Jarred Cole win on Friday I’m going to have to put my money on him to deliver the goods again on Saturday. The two favourites for the day are Jason Askew and Arron Monk and while they have been the best players on show this week, Askew keeps finding ways to lose and Monk wasn’t great on Thursday. The other reason why I’m prepared to swerve them is they meet in the third match and if Askew wins that he has the overall table sewn up which could see a downturn in their performances.
Cole can’t win the overall week but this is good match practice for a youngster who is looking to make a name for himself in the game and if he can touch off the likes of Andy Jenkins, Paul Nicholson and Arron Monk once again then it will certainly do his reputation no harm, especially if this lockdown keeps getting extended and more of these leagues pop up in the future. At 8/1 he is still overpriced and is worth a punt.
Match Betting
Although there is a chance that Jason Askew might have the league won by the time he plays Andy Jenkins, I’m still going to back him to beat him for a fourth time this week. I’ve mentioned that Jenkins doesn’t have a great record in his final match of the day and Askew’s 5-0 walloping of him on Friday made that eight defeats in nine for Jenkins to close out his action. There just has to be something in that. Even if Askew isn’t massively motivated, I can’t see Jenkins being either. Askew is the better player of the two and he might still have something to play for. Either way he’s worth taking to win 5-3 or better once again.
