The second week of the A Night at the Darts competition reaches its penultimate night on Friday and with the overall table still to be sorted out there is plenty at stake on another evening of action as five players continue to battle it out in their own homes for our entertainment.
Thursday was a great night of darts, heavily assisted by the appearance of Phil Taylor, with big scores and high checkouts galore and some great matches to pass another evening of lockdown. The same should come along on Friday too.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Thursday Recap
For the third night in succession it was Martin Adams who led the way, winning three of his four matches. He topped the group on leg difference from the impressive Wessel Nijman and now sits 10 points clear at the top of the overall table. Jason Askew came back with a couple of wins but it was another night of frustration for Scott Mitchell, for whom not a lot has gone right this week. He picked up a solitary league win as did Boris Koltsov.
It was a ‘Meatloaf’ night for us betting wise with two wins out of the three bets we placed. It began badly with just the one 180 between Boris Koltsov and Jason Askew but the Russian made up for it thereafter. He and Wessel Nijman combined to bring their 180 target in comfortably and then Koltsov edged out Phil Taylor in a deciding leg to be the only man to beat him on the night. That secured another nice night of profit for us.
Friday Line Up
It is the turn of Boris Koltsov to have his night off which means that Martin Adams with another good night can pretty much put this week’s overall league to bed ahead of him having his night off on Saturday. David Evans will return refreshed from having missed the action against Phil Taylor on Thursday night and he’ll be looking for plenty of wins to close the gap on Wolfie. The same is said of Wessel Nijman and Jason Askew while Scott Mitchell will be hoping that Friday offers better things than the rest of the week.

Outright Betting
When you consider that Martin Adams has only lost one match in the last three nights outside of his match against Phil Taylor, and that one he lost he led 4-1 in, you would have to say the 5/1 on him winning this group again is just too big. Admittedly the return of David Evans makes it a whole lot more competitive and there are questions whether Wolfie can keep his level going, but ultimately he is showing no signs of slowing down.
His three league wins on Thursday all came with averages in excess of 90 and it was only some rare missed doubles that cost him against Mitchell. There have been chinks in all of the other players in this group all week but Adams looks the most fool proof of them all. Yes he is due a slow night but this is his last night of the week and I’ll take him to come away with another group title at 5/1.
Match Betting
I’m a little surprised that Martin Adams is odds against in his match against Jason Askew towards the end of Friday night. He has won their last two meetings this week and the longer this week has gone on the sketchier the play of Askew has gotten. His finishing has become very hit and miss. This will be the last match of the week for Wolfie and I fancy he can go out in style and come away with a win here.
It isn’t as though Adams can’t beat Askew when the younger man plays well. On Tuesday when they met Askew averaged 97 and still lost so Adams certainly doesn’t have to fear his opponent being on top form here. Coming into this match Adams will know another win could seal the league for him whereas Askew is already playing for little in that regard. As with the outright price, the price on Adams here is too big.
