The first pool of players in the Icons of Darts competition for this week play for the third and final time on Friday, as the team at Modus Darts continue to keep us entertained throughout another day of lockdown.
This is the more competitive looking set of players on the two we have been watching this week, and after two decent days of darts on Monday and Wednesday, we will be hoping for much more of the same on Friday.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday seven players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the seven players will play each other once over the best of seven legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Thursday Recap
We had arguably the biggest shock of them all on Thursday when 33/1 shot Mark Webster pulled off a remarkable group win, winning five out of his six matches for the ultimate surprise. He edged out Scott Mitchell on leg difference with David Evans a further win back in third. Ritchie Edhouse won three and lost three while Arrron Monk had a couple of wins to his name, as did Andy Jenkins. It was a day to forget for Jarred Cole who went winless for his efforts.
That meant our first bet was one to forget on Cole winning the group. That never got started even though he actually led his opening match 2-0. He only won another nine legs all day though. It didn’t get any better when Arron Monk was one of the five players to lose to Mark Webster which means that he didn’t bring the handicap in either so we’ve work to do in the last couple of days to get back to parity for the week.
Friday Line Up
Martin Adams has won this group for the first two days they have played this week and he is one of two joint favourites to win for a third time. Boris Koltsov is the other member of the favouritism clan and he has been competitive this week without getting over the line for a group success. Justin Smith is the only other member of the group who is a single figure price but he looks a little snatchy for my liking.
Fallon Sherrock doesn’t usually go a whole week without a deep threat at winning a group but this is her final chance to do it here. Paul Nicholson offered a better showing on earlier in the week and he’ll be looking to build on that improvement while Mike Warburton gets another chance to show what he can do. Keelan Kay is the final member of the group and he’ll be looking to build on his two wins from Wednesday.

Outright Betting
You have to give serious props to Martin Adams here and based on what he has delivered already this week he has to be given the maximum respect. He is priced accordingly though and I’m in no rush to back Boris Koltsov at the price. He is beginning to be a little expensive to follow. Justin Smith doesn’t really interest me either. His scoring was very scratchy on Wednesday and although I still think he’s the best finisher in this group you still have to offer something in the scoring.
I’m a little bit surprised that Paul Nicholson is priced like he is while Fallon Sherrock should be noted as well but I’m going to take a chance on Mike Warburton at 14/1. He won three matches on Wednesday and in the last two games that he lost his checkout ratio was 4/25. That is pathetic and it is his weakness but his scoring was right there on Wednesday and if he can just tighten up on those doubles at a key time he could land the odds at the price. Warby has won a group in the last two weeks he has been involved and looks a fair price to win another here.
Match Betting
I’ll take the one bet on Friday and we have to wait right until the final match of the day for it to arrive. It sees Martin Adams going up against Paul Nicholson. This will be the third time they have met this week and Adams will be looking to complete a hat trick of successes. Not only will he be looking for a third win, but he could even pick up a third straight 4-2 win because that was the margin of victory when they met on the other two occasions.
Adams has covered the handicap in both those matches and he is odds again to cover it again which looks a little on the high side to me. There was 15pts between the two in the averages on Monday and despite Adams only delivering a checkout ratio of 4/18 he was still 7.5pts better off than Nicholson on Wednesday. He has had so much in hand of Nicholson in their meetings this week that the 11/10 that he wins 4-2 or better is just too big.
