The final set of matches in the regular season of the Remote Darts League get going on Thursday and by the end of the evening four men will have played their last games of their campaigns as they continue to keep us entertained during lockdown.
The ladies in the competition have their own evening against each other on Friday which means that three of the next four nights sees the men battling it out so there is a more competitive feel about proceedings. Beginning with this session on Thursday.
The Format
The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.
At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Wednesday Recap
It was another good night in the Remote Darts League for James Richardson. The defending champion won all three matches and soared back to the top of the table and secured his qualification for finals night in the process. He wasn’t the only one to enjoy a good evening though. There is a real logjam forming for those semi-final spots and Joe Chaney catapulted himself deep into it with two wins from three on the night. There was one victory for Thibault Tricole, which came against a Stacey Pace who was much better than we have seen in her first three outings, but ultimately suffered three losses on the evening again.
This tournament had been becoming a frustrating one from a betting point of view but some of those annoyances were reduced on Wednesday evening when our bet on Joe Chaney to take care of Thibault Tricole came up trumps. To be fair to Chaney he scored consistently throughout the match and although some of his finishing wasn’t as crisp as he would have liked, he earned himself enough shots at the double to get the job done 6-3.

Preview
Technically Darren Herewini can still qualify for the semi-finals but it isn’t going to happen so the night is all about the other three men and if any of them can pick up three victories then they will have done all they can in terms of attempting to qualify for the last four. Two of them battle it out first up when David Cameron takes on Larry Butler in a match that losing isn’t really an option especially for the latter. Herewini then meets Thibault Tricole who can’t really afford to lose this match.
Herewini then stays on to face Cameron in what is a big match for the Canadian. Tricole then completes his regular season firstly by facing Butler before what the world rankings would suggest is the game of the night when he takes on Cameron in a game where the two points will be vital for whoever gets them. The last match of the night sees Butler launching one last push towards the semi-final when he goes up against Herewini.
Betting
I’ve not really been too impressed by Darren Herewini at any stage in this tournament and I expect him to be outgunned here. The Kiwi hasn’t really scored very well throughout the campaign and his finishing has left plenty to be desired too. He still hasn’t averaged 86 in any of the matches he has played and on a huge night for everyone I just don’t see that standard holding much weight here I have to say. There is a case to take him on against all three men but the way the night goes we could get some dead rubbers by the end.
That is the only thing putting me off backing Larry Butler to see off Herewini but if the American is still live by the final game of the night I will certainly be investing. Before then though, the even money on David Cameron to get the job done looks decent enough to me. He had a mare against Paul Hogan on his latest outing but in the other two matches that night he averaged all but 87 against Lorraine Winstanley and near enough 93 against Richard Veenstra. 90 averages were the norm for the Canadian earlier in the season and knowing that it is now or never, I expect him to be at that level here. Cameron will do for me at even money.
