2019-20 Bundesliga – Sunday 7th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Bundesliga concludes on Sunday with a triple header of action in which the middle of the table gets most of the focus as we head towards the end of the campaign at quite some lick now.

Although the spotlight will be on the middle and lower end of the table, the early parts of the afternoon will also centre round the race for the European spots next season, a battle that was blown wide open when Hoffenheim slipped up on Saturday.

Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg (12.30)

The first match of the afternoon is one which could have an impact on proceedings at both ends of the table when Werder Bremen look to relaunch a survival bid when they entertain a Wolfsburg outfit who will move back into sixth if they avoid defeat.

Bremen will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek. The concern is whether they have enough goals in them to get the job done. They failed to score against Frankfurt and that should send the warning signals out because Frankfurt are conceding at will at the minute. Even the tightened up defence of Bremen looked all at sea on Wednesday evening.

Wolfsburg have been a little up and down since the restart of the season. They have been wonderful on their travels but found wanting at home so they will be pleased this is away from home. Wolfsburg should be well suited to this assignment. Only the top three have conceded fewer goals than them and although they are not the most free scoring, they have been finding the net regularly enough recently. Bremen looked to be putting up a fight in their battle for survival but that midweek loss was a crashing blow. I fancy Wolfsburg to pile more misery on them here.

Union Berlin vs Schalke (14.30)

Two sides who have been bang out of form since Bundesliga returned last month meet in what is probably a match which will have long-term implications for both in the second game on Sunday, when Union Berlin host Schalke.

There is no dressing it up, Schalke have been absolutely rotten since the restart and with every passing day more and more pressure mounts of David Wagner, whose achievements in his early days at Huddersfield are looking outrageously remarkable by the minute. They have lost all four matches, scoring just one goal in the process and generally looking like a side who have some pretty big issues on and off the field.

Union Berlin haven’t been a great deal better than Schalke but there were signs of life from them last week albeit in what was a heavy defeat and things have closed up at the bottom of the table enough for them to be scared into action. Union carry a little bit of a goal threat in Sebastian Andersson which is something that Schalke lack. The visitors look like a side who need the season to end pretty soon so the more motivated team should be backed here. That is Union Berlin.

Augsburg vs FC Koln (17.00)

The final match of the afternoon sees another bang out of form side in action when Augsburg play host to an FC Koln in a match between two teams who will be looking worryingly over their shoulders at the chasing pack should they lose this encounter.

I have to say I’ve not been overly impressed by Augsburg since the restart but to be fair to them they probably should have got something out of Hertha Berlin last week so that would make me think twice about taking them on. I’ve liked what I’ve seen of FC Koln even though their results haven’t been what they would have wanted. Their games are entertaining and good to watch and I’m sure this one will be no different. I don’t think there is too much of an edge either way. I’d have been prepared to chance Koln but the likely absence of Cordoba is an issue so I’ll sit the last game of the weekend out.
