2019-20 Bundesliga – Tuesday 16th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The last midweek round of matches in the Bundesliga season takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday and it is a set of fixtures that could see the champions crowned and the first relegation confirmed.

That could all happen on Tuesday, as although there are only four fixtures on the card, Bayern Munich could win yet another title, while the German top flight could lose Paderborn if things don’t go their way.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (19.30 UK time unless stated)

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Wolfsburg (17.30)

Freiburg vs Hertha Berlin

Union Berlin vs Paderborn

Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich

Preview

The champions in waiting Bayern Munich can get their medals around their necks on Tuesday evening if they can see off struggling Werder Bremen, a side who themselves will be eager to pick up a result as they bid to launch the great escape. Underneath Bremen in the table are Paderborn and they head into the midweek set of matches knowing that if they do not beat Union Berlin they are relegated with two matches still to play. Even a win will have them sweating on results elsewhere. Union will guarantee another season of Bundesliga football if they win that game.

The race for Europe forms the focus of the other two matches as Borussia Monchengladbach look to pile the pressure on those around them in the bid for a Champions League spot next term. They host a Wolfsburg side who can gain complete control of the chase for sixth spot if they find the victory. The other sees Freiburg and Hertha Berlin, two teams chasing that last European place, meeting in a match where only a win will do in that quest.

Betting

I’m going with one on Tuesday night and while Hertha Berlin cost me dearly on Saturday, I’m prepared to go with them again. They looked like the side I thought they would be in the first-half but the sending off of Dedryck Boyata proved costly and they got overwhelmed by Eintracht Frankfurt in the second period. I’m not convinced that is a true reflection of them as a team though and we might see more of the first 45 minutes than the second here.

Assuming that is the case, I think Hertha have the better of Freiburg. To be fair to the hosts they have had a couple of good results lately but I still don’t rate them as one of the better teams in the Bundesliga, or even of the quality of Hertha. They have lost two of their three home matches since the restart whereas on their travels Hertha have beaten a Hoffenheim side who have been in good touch since then, held RB Leipzig and pushed Dortmund close. A repeat of that can see them win here. They look the play without the draw in play.
