Once again the NFL Sunday ends with the Sunday Night Football which this week comes from CenturyLInk Field as the Seattle Seahawks host the new look New England Patriots in what is a tasty looking match up.
Both these teams won their opening match last week so one of them will kick off their season with successive wins which will leave them in a good position to build from. It isn’t disastrous for the losers so hopefully these two sides deliver a great game.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks started their season with a win road win at the Atlanta Falcons last week, taking advantage of a defence that has major problems to come away with which wasn’t just a success but a very comfortable one. If they can back that up here they will be in a very good position, particularly with their division rivals beginning to suffer with an injury list which could derail their season.
We probably shouldn’t judge it too much based on how the Falcons did on Sunday, but there looked to be a real vibe in the Seahawks offense and with the side always up to scratch on the defensive side of the ball we might be seeing early signs of a team who can go on and dominate the division this term. A win here would be another marker laid down even allowing for the fact that the Patriots aren’t the team they were.

New England Patriots
There was a lot of pressure on the New England Patriots last week. Everyone was watching and waiting for them to fail without Tom Brady but it was exactly the opposite. To be fair to them the Miami Dolphins were soft opponents to get started with but you can only beat what is in front of you and they did that well. What was important as well as the win was Cam Newton had a big game. He needed that to take away the doubt without Brady and for his own peace of mind after a poor trot towards the end of his Carolina Panthers career.
What we saw from the Patriots last week was that for all the big change offensively, they have not weakened too much in their defence. It was that which carried them last season and if that unit stays strong this term then they are going to be tough to beat because Newton will effectively be playing without pressure and we’ve seen in the past when he is given a free rein he can be as dangerous as anyone.
Betting
Despite all of what Cam Newton can and can’t do I think the Seattle Seahawks wins this match and I think they win it by a little. I like the way their offense is going and I expect their balance in that department to keep the New England defence honest but it is the run defence of the Seahawks that makes me think they will come through here. They will be no strangers to facing the Cam Newton juggernaut and will have plans to counteract that, and if he is stopped we don’t know how Patriots will work things out offensively.
Seattle generally have a decent home record and it will be interesting to see what difference that makes. By and large though the teams who have had huge crowds who aren’t with them at the minute haven’t been too inconvenienced which is encouraging. You can get a decent enough price on the Seahawks to cover a field goal and I expect them to do exactly that so I’ll take Seattle -3 in the Sunday Night Football.
