Horse Racing – Goodwood & Navan Saturday 29th August Tips and Betting Preview

We have another busy Saturday of action in the racing world but after a string of good weekend cards, it has to be said that the line up for this one leaves plenty to be desired despite the fact there are six meetings in total.

They race at Goodwood, Newmarket and Windsor in the afternoon in the UK while over in Ireland there are cards at Navan and Wexford. The action then concludes with an evening meeting at Redcar. Our two bets come in the afternoon on either side of the Irish Sea.

2.25 Goodwood

A really tight looking handicap where the favourite in this field of 10 is trading at around 5/1 whilst the outsider is 11/1.  It’s fair to say it’s anyone’s race.  Many of these are out of form but are seemingly well handicapped & a return to form is the chance you’d be taking on the likes of Cardsharp, Alemaratalyoum & Cold Stare.  On the flip side, Magical Wish & Breath Of Air are both running well but there have to be question marks over the ground from both.

Betting

Trading in double figures, outsider Jack’s Point is the one we’re siding with.  A 4 year old who started off this season in fine form, winning a handicap at Newmarket but improving to finish 2nd in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot.  He’s not been as good since but has had excuses.  This track could see him bounce back as, in 2 starts here, he’s finished 2nd twice at prices of 16/1 and 33/1.  He’s had limited tries on soft ground too with his best run by far being with cut in the ground at Royal Ascot.  With the ground likely to bring about improvement & at a track that suits, he should go well for an in-form yard.

Tips

Back Jacks Point (e/w) for a 0.5/10 stake at 11.00 William Hill BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)

Another open looking handicap and it may pay to head further down the market as 3 of the front 4 in the market all won last time out & face revised marks here whilst the other hasn’t been seen out this term.  Eastern Racer is next best & should go well with Sean Davis back on board but does have a big weight to carry.

Betting

With a 6lb weight for age allowance, Silvertown at double figures odds is the selection.  He ran in 3 very good maidens as a 2 year old & failed to show much but it was interesting he was pitched in so deep.  On reappearance, he won a handicap at Tipperary when going off favourite but has failed to properly shine since.  He was held up out the back in his next 2 races where the slow pace made it difficult to make up ground before a vastly improved run when again finishing from off the pace, 4th of 14 on genuinely soft ground at Galway.  Last time out, he had excuses as he was struck into early doors & was eased with his jockey looking down to see what the problem was.  It’s interesting to see Colin Keane booked for the ride & it is hoped he gets back to the form of his seasonal reappearance.

Tips

Back Silvertown (e/w) for a 0.5/10 stake at 13.00 Boylesports BOG (⅕ odds 1-4)
