The second part of the double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday is the last game of the CPL 2020 regular season as the St Lucia Zouks takes on the Jamaica Tallawahs in a match which doesn’t have a whole lot on it.
Whatever happens in this match both teams will be competing in the semi-final on Tuesday. The Zouks will face the Guyana Amazon Warriors while the Tallawahs will take on the Trinbago Knight Riders but both sides will want to go into those contests with some good form behind them.
St Lucia Zouks
It was an excellent start to the season for the St Lucia Zouks but since the competition has come back to the Brian Lara Academy Stadium it has gone a little quiet for them. They have lost both their matches and in truth haven’t really been competitive in either so it is important that they deliver a strong showing here. They chose to rest and rotate some players in their last game which is fair enough but momentum means plenty in these franchise events so I would expect a more proper team here.
If the Zouks are going to win this match and then progress when it comes to the knockout stages of the tournament then they are going to need to find some form with the bat. They have gone a little too quiet for my liking and the big issue they have is that few of their big batsmen are actually in form so they could do with them finding something over the course of this match. They are still bowling well in the main if their batsmen can deliver the goods though.
Jamaica Tallawahs
This has been a terrible campaign for the Jamaica Tallawahs and although they have qualified for the last four, you would have to suggest the primary reason that have done that is because two of their rivals have been so bad rather than anything they have done that has been out of the ordinary. We’ve seen before both in this tournament and the leagues around the world that if you finish the regular season well you’re only a couple of big performances or a day out for someone on two occasions from winning the title.
Jamaica definitely have the firepower for that to happen to them here but they could do with a few of those players catching fire here. The concern for the Tallawahs over the last few matches though is that their bowling is just beginning to go around the park a little too often for their liking. They have given up more than 160 in their last two completed bowling innings and were getting smashed by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots before the rain came in that match. That needs to tighten up for them here.

Key Men
Roston Chase was in excellent form at the start of the season but as injuries struck he has gone a little quiet. If he can come back to form and give a platform for the bigger hitters to bat around the Zouks batting should improve as a result.
You get the feeling that if the Jamaica Tallawahs are going to go on and win this tournament Andre Russell will need to carry them there. He looked like he was beginning to warm up on Saturday and a continuation of that here would give his side hope.
Betting
We’ve seen in the earlier match that the boundary is there to be cleared here. Although the Patriots were rolled for 77 that was their inability to play spin rather than anything wrong with the wicket. Although they scored such a paltry figure, they scored five sixes in that total which highlights the potential for six hitting in this second match, especially when you factor in the clean hitting firepower that is on show.
These two met in their opening match of the tournament when both teams scored well and they combined for 15 sixes. That was after not playing any cricket for a while so with everyone having had nine matches behind them the theory is that the clean hits will come more naturally. There is nothing wrong with the pitch and haven’t been since we came back to this ground so I’m expecting over 11.5 sixes to land here despite the mess St Kitts and Nevis got themselves in earlier.
