Super League XXV – Tuesday 29th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We have midweek action in the Super League this week and it all begins on Tuesday night with a couple of matches, both of which look pretty tasty as four teams who will have their eye on making it to Old Trafford compete.

Unfortunately the proximity to these games to the Challenge Cup semi-finals at the weekend means that most of the sides are resting players which will affect the quality of the matches but nevertheless Super League on our screens is never a bad thing.

The Format

There has been a change in the format of the season. The ‘loop matches’ and Magic Weekend have bitten the dust so teams will play 20 regular season matches ahead of the playoffs. Scrums are a thing of the past for the remainder of the season. They are being replaced with a tap restart to prevent the spread of the virus. The ‘six to go’ rule that is being used in NRL is also coming into the Super League with more eyes likely to be on the game with other sports yet to get back up and running. It has since been announced that the Super League table will be based on point percentage rather than total points.

Salford Red Devils vs Warrington Wolves (17.30)

The opening match of the two on Tuesday is a dress rehearsal for one of the Challenge Cup semi-finals at the weekend as the Salford Red Devils take on the Warrington Wolves in a match which could have quite a say on the race to Old Trafford.

This match mean a little more to Salford Red Devils who currently sit way down the Super League table and need to pick up a run of wins to push for Old Trafford whereas Warrington are top of the table and a loss to them won’t be that crucial. That is reflected in the squads that have been named for this game with Salford offering up a much more experienced and closer to full strength side than Warrington, who have included a number of youngsters. I would give Salford a chance in this one best 13 on best 13 so with the changes Wire have made you’ve got to think the Red Devils are good things here and can cover eight points.

Wigan Warriors vs St Helens (19.45)

The second match of the double header is the great Super League derby between the last two winners of the competition as the Wigan Warriors take on St Helens in what is always a feisty clash, although might not be as a competitive here as it usually is.

That is because the Super League is all that St Helens have to play for this term now after their Challenge Cup exit whereas Wigan are in semi-final action at the weekend and have rested near enough their entire first choice 13 for this match to save them for that clash with Leeds Rhinos. St Helens didn’t play last week either so they are completely fresh and while they will be without the injured Mark Percival they are close to full strength aside from that. Wigan are nowhere near full strength with 10 changes to their 21 man squad so St Helens should have a free run at this. I expect them to run riot against a side who aren’t likely to put up double figures and should concede a lot more than that.
