New Zealand vs Bangladesh – 2nd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

New Zealand will look to continue their dominance over Bangladesh on Tuesday when the two sides head to Napier for the second T20 match of the three scheduled this week with McLean Park the venue for what is the first chance for the hosts to win the series.

Bangladesh haven’t had the tour they would have wanted so far but they have the chance to force a deciding match if they can come out on top here. Perhaps more than that though this is an opportunity for both sides to continue their World T20 preparations.

New Zealand

Even a much changed New Zealand side were never in any danger of losing the opening game of the series. That was despite losing a wicket in the first over of the game. The Kiwis have been dominant ever since the Bangladeshis touched down in the country and something is going to have to dramatically change if that isn’t to continue. New Zealand are building up a head of steam in this format and a win here will be their fourth series win of the summer.

We’ve seen throughout the summer that whatever unit they put out the New Zealand batting is going to deliver the goods. That doesn’t surprise me with their Super Smash being full of runs but we’ve also seen that their supposed second string bowlers can cut it at this level and that was very much the case in the first game of this series. The thing that never gets mentioned is how good the New Zealand fielding is. The amount of runs they save in the field can be the difference between winning and losing.

Bangladesh

This tour has not been good for Bangladesh so far. They haven’t batted all that well at all and their bowling just hasn’t sustained enough pressure on the New Zealand batsmen to make them nervous. There were actually periods in that first match when Bangladesh were going along ok. They started brilliantly with the ball but just couldn’t maintain the pressure. They also began well with the bat too but could not sustain it and in the end fell to a tame defeat.

There were positives from that first T20. They were a lot more positive with the bat at the beginning of the innings which is what was called for. A lot of that was down to the fact that they were chasing plenty more there was an intent which was necessary. They were alright with the ball at times as well but there were one or two bowlers who didn’t deliver the goods as strongly as they might have done and that took the game away from them really.

Team News

You wouldn’t think New Zealand would want to change an emphatically winning combination but if they do want to rotate then there is the option of bringing Adam Milne and Todd Astle into the side. That feels unlikely though.

Mushfiqur Rahim was a surprise absentee from the first match and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to feature in this game. Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain both sat out the opening match and it would make sense if at least one of those return.

Betting

I went with the runs in the first match of the series but I’m going to switch tack slightly and attack the boundaries for this second game rather than the runs as I’m a little concerned that if Bangladesh bat first they won’t make the 160+ that will be needed for the over to cover, but at the same time on this ground I wouldn’t want to completely bet against them doing it. I think the boundaries is the safer bet though.

The line is 39.5 which on a small ground like this one where the wicket is always flat and true I don’t think will be high enough. Bangladesh never put up much of a score in that first game but they still hit 19 boundaries on a bigger ground than this one and there is probably a few more to come with the likes of Mahmudullah and Liton Das not getting into their stride. Even if Bangladesh don’t post a 160 score I think they’ll hit a fair few boundaries and if New Zealand are chasing something small they’ll go all guns blazing at it so I think the boundaries is safer than the runs here.
