The latest round of Super League matches begin on Saturday afternoon with a couple of sides playing in front of their own fans for the first time as we head slowly towards the halfway mark of the campaign.
There is one match for us to enjoy live on the TV, which is the last one to kick off, while if you are not lucky enough to be going to either of the other then you’ll be able to view them on the Our League app as before.
Salford Red Devils vs Wigan Warriors (13.00)
The opening match of the afternoon sees the Salford Red Devils looking to end the unbeaten start to the season of the Wigan Warriors in a match the home side really need to win. They will be buoyed by playing in front of their own supporters for the first time and will need to make it count.
Salford have only won one match this season, which came against a Leigh Centurions side who look a little out of their depth, so they really need to start picking up victories else the good work of the last couple of seasons under Ian Watson will just be going to waste. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of the Wigan Warriors yet this season and yet they are unbeaten in Super League. My gut feeling is that Salford can stay close here but we’ve not really got any evidence to back that up in terms of a bet so I’ll leave this one alone.

Warrington Wolves vs Castleford Tigers (15.00)
The most intriguing match of the afternoon is the second one to kick off as Warrington Wolves welcome their future head coach Daryl Powell and his current side Castleford Tigers in a match which might feel a little bit like being invited to a wedding only to see the best man leg it with the bride!
Both sides go into this match off the back of a defeat last week. That will have been disappointing because both featured in front of their own fans for the first time in 15 months. I thought the Warrington loss to Huddersfield was more concerning than the Castleford one to Hull KR. I say that because despite the emotion on the terraces Warrington just didn’t play for 40 minutes. Castleford got out of the traps well last week but just didn’t last home, but a lot of that might well have been down to playing in the Challenge Cup the week before, whereas Hull KR had the week off.
These two have already met this season and the Castleford Tigers ran out winners and I wonder if they will be extra motivated to win this one to prove to Daryl Powell that he is making a mistake leaving them, or at the very least to show that they are still playing for him. Either way, Warrington just concern me under Steve Price. They just don’t seem to be able to win when teams take them into a battle. I think the 7/4 on Castleford to win this offers up a little bit of value.
Catalans Dragons vs St Helens (17.00 – Sky Sports Arena)
The pick of the matches from a standard point of view is the last one to kick off, which is a repeat of the semi-final of last season as Catalans Dragons go out for revenge when they host the champions St Helens in Perpignan.
St Helens blew Catalans away in that semi-final and in the end there was a feeling of men against boys about the contest. That should fire the French side up to perform here, but you would have to say they don’t look as strong this term as they did last even allowing for some positive results recently. Saints seem to have picked up where they left off though and they will know that this is a chance for them to lay a marker down if they can come away from this with a win. They look a little short to me in terms of their price but sometimes Catalans and their discipline can be their own worst enemy, as we saw in that showpiece match last season, which lessens my interest in taking them.
