FIFA World Cup 2022 European Qualifiers – Monday 15th November Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is the penultimate night of FIFA World Cup 2022 European Qualifiers on Monday and we will get two more automatic qualifiers for the big tournament confirmed on what has the potential to be a dramatic evening of football.

It is a night where three of the Home Nations conclude their qualifying campaign but it is events elsewhere which is likely to harbour much of the attention on a night that has the European champions among the teams looking to secure their qualification.

Group C

This is the important group of the night as Italy and Switzerland go about trying to land the automatic qualifying spot at the finals. Italy had the chance to put Switzerland to bed on Friday night but were unable to manage it. If they can muster a win in Belfast when they take on Northern Ireland on Monday evening then they will have one foot in Qatar. It wouldn’t be completely secure though because Switzerland would remain level on points with Italy with a win and they only go into the night two goals back on goal difference. Switzerland host Bulgaria so they could easily do their goal difference some good there.

Group F

We already know the automatic qualifier and the team in the playoffs in Group F so the final matches are largely all about rankings and the like. The two top meet in Glasgow when Scotland welcome the group winners Denmark to Hampden Park. Scotland have a playoff to look forward to and if they can knock off a decent side like Denmark they would take a lot of confidence into that with them. Austria conclude their campaign against Moldova in one of the other two matches while Israel host the Faroe Islands in the other one.

Group I

England haven’t completely secured qualification for the World Cup but I think we can assume that they will because they close out their campaign needing just a point from their trip to San Marino. If they can’t get that they don’t deserve to be at the tournament. That means Poland will have to settle for a playoff spot and they will go into those playoffs off the back of a home match against Hungary in their final game. Albania were competitive for much of this group but their demolition in London on Friday night ended their qualifying hopes. They finish their campaign at home to Andorra.

Betting

There isn’t a whole lot to bet on over the course of this evening but the focus of my attention comes in Lucerne where it makes absolutely no sense if we don’t get an open and high scoring contest. Switzerland can probably expect Italy to win in Belfast but that wouldn’t be the end of their qualifying chances because there has to be every chance they can win by two more goals against Bulgaria than Italy do in Northern Ireland.

Were they to tie on goal difference, Switzerland would have the head to head on Italy courtesy of the away goal in their draw on Friday night so the Swiss should have the plan to win this by as many as they can. They are guaranteed a playoff spot so they have nothing to lose. That route might leave them a little more vulnerable at the back but it is a risk worth taking. The reverse result between Switzerland and Bulgaria was 3-1 to the Swiss and given the need for goals the hosts have I fancy we’ll go beyond 3.5 goals here too.
