NFL 2021 – Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the Monday Night Football this week is the match which was scheduled to be played out on this day when the Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings in a tasty NFC North clash which carries plenty of significance for the Vikings in particular.

Both these teams go into the match with a losing record but if the Vikings level out their ledger they will be tied with the New Orleans Saints for the final wildcard position. The Bears are playing the role of party poopers.

Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears go into this match with a 4-9 record for the season which includes losing seven of their last eight matches. They did win in the middle of that run when they went to the Detroit Lions and came out on top on Thanksgiving Day, but that aside it has been a barren run for the Bears. Injuries certainly haven’t helped them in their quest this term and now Covid-19 issues are dogging them as well but the overall truth is that they haven’t really looked good enough at any stage.

They have missed quarterback Justin Fields for parts of the season and the loss of Khalil Mack has impacted them heavily but even so they should have done better than they have. They did at least show something on offense last week when they put 30 points up on the Green Bay Packers but that match also highlighted their big problem – the fact that an injured Aaron Rodgers was able to put up 45 points on them.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are 6-7 for their season but a win here will leave them almost in control of their own destiny when it comes to securing a wildcard spot in the NFC. They know that is the best they can hope for now because they saw rivals Green Bay Packers win the division on Sunday afternoon. You would imagine they can afford one more loss if they are going to sneak into the postseason but no more than that. With the Rams and the Packers to come in the next two weeks this is simply a match they have to win.

They aren’t being helped with injuries themselves and Adam Thielen is rated questionable for this match. The positive though is that Dalvin Cook is returning to his best and Justin Jefferson is beginning to head towards an elite receiver so the Vikings have the offense to take advantage of this much softer Chicago defence than we are used to seeing. What the need to do is become ruthless and stop allowing poor teams to hang around against them.

Betting

I like over 45 points in this match. We saw last week that this Chicago Bears defence just doesn’t have the personnel to deal with powerful offenses and while Kirk Cousins has a terrible record on the Monday Night Football, in Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson he has two of the best players in their offensive positions in the league, as well as a pretty decent support cast. I would expect Minnesota to pile up the points here, but we’ve seen all too often that they struggle to stop sides themselves.

While the Chicago Bears were getting torn apart with their defence on the field last week, they did put 30 points up on a decent Green Bay defence so that offers encouragement that they can score here too. They can play with a bit of freedom in this match as their season is done from a competitive viewpoint so they can dial up some big plays and look to get down the field accordingly. I think that should all combine for more than 45 points in this one.
