The second round of the men’s singles draw concludes at the WDF World Darts Championship on Tuesday while the last 16 of the women’s draw continues on what looks like another good day of darts inside the Lakeside Country Club.
We saw some really gripping matches to open up the second round on Monday and with the seeded players in the other half of the draw entering the fray on Tuesday we should expect nothing less once again.
Afternoon Session
We kick off the action on Tuesday with the former PDC player Nick Fullwell taking to the stage when he goes up against the Canadian qualifier Rory Hansen who had a good win over Mark Barilli in the opening round. We then move to the women’s draw for the second match of the day for the all-Dutch affair between the third seed Anca Zijlstra and the qualifier Priscilla Steenbergen who will be looking to perform much better than she did in the opening round.
One of the dark horses for the tournament in the men’s draw takes to the stage in the third match of the day when Neil Duff makes his Lakeside debut. He meets the Australian player Justin Thompson who has plenty of experience on this stage. Another player who is no stranger to this stage is Cameron Menzies. The PDC tour card holder closes out the afternoon session when he faces Ian Jones who looked pretty impressive in his opening round win.

Evening Session
Some big hitters come out to play in the evening session including the man who will be the WDF number one ranked player once this tournament is over in James Hurrell. He takes on a John Desreumaux who went viral on social media for his language after the opening match but could easily have gone that way for the poor level of his darts in the main. The women’s match comes along second in the evening and it sees our outright bet taking to the stage for the first time this week when Kirsty Hutchinson meets Jo Clements.
The Dutch player turned American star Jules van Dongen begins his quest for glory in the penultimate match of the night when the new PDC tour card holder meets the other Dutchman on show in Ryan de Vreede. The last match of a really good day of darts sees the ‘defending champion’ Wayne Warren taking to the stage. He will face Lee Shewan who will expect to play a lot better than he did in the opening match when he was playing one of his best friends, which is never an easy thing to do.
Betting
I’ll go with just the one bet over the course of Tuesday as we continue to assess the runners and riders in this competition. That comes in the middle of the afternoon session where I expect Neil Duff to get the better of Justin Thompson. Duff might be inexperienced on this stage but he is one of the better players on the WDF scene and while the Australian might have been here a few times he is very much what I call one-paced and I don’t think his gears go high enough to win this match.
Duff played in the Live League just prior to Christmas and in one of the matches he played against Cameron Menzies he averaged a shade under 103. That was only over seven legs but that is effectively a set here and if he has that sort of level with him he’ll definitely win that set against a Thompson who hit 33% of his doubles in his win over Paul Hogan in the opening round but still averaged less than 80. Duff had wins over Kevin Painter and Martin Adams in the Live League and just looks a level above the Australian to me. It might be his debut but I expect it to be a winning one for Duff.
