Premier League 2021-22 – Burnley vs Everton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Premier League on Wednesday evening and it could well be one of the biggest clashes of the season as Burnley host Everton in a relegation dust up which the term six-pointer might not do justice.

Everton will know if they can win at Turf Moor they will go six points clear of relegation with a game in hand. Lose though and Burnley will move to within a point of them and the pressure will be right on them. For these two it gets no bigger than this.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels. The build-up to the game begins at 7pm with kick off at Turf Moor at 7.30pm.

Burnley

Around a month or so ago there were one or two signs that Burnley were just starting to do what they seem to always do and come good in the second half of the season but things have fizzled out a little since then and they enter this match having lost their last four matches. It should be noted that they have been beaten by Leicester City, Chelsea and Manchester City in three of those four matches and you would expect them to lose those games. The loss to Brentford in the middle of those would be more of a concern, although they look to have picked up recently.

The huge positive for Burnley in this match is they have been in this position before and flourished in it. I’m sure they won’t have wanted to be in it once again but they are and they will be able to call upon previous experiences. They need to start finding the back of the net though. They haven’t scored in that run of four defeats and only have 10 goals to their name at Turf Moor all season with six of those coming in two matches against Brentford and Crystal Palace. That simply has to improve if they are to stay up.

Everton

Whatever happens from here on in this has been a terrible season for Everton. Even with all the financial difficulties they have with FFP they have a squad which should be much higher up the league. They need to forget that for now though and just concentrate on staying in the division and then assess things in the summer. They are by no means guaranteed to stay up although they boosted their chances of survival with a win over Newcastle two matches ago in a similar pressurised encounter to this one.

One of the many reasons why Everton are in the position they are in is their away form. To say it is wretched would be an understatement. In their last 12 away trips they have picked up just two points. Admittedly they came at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge but that clearly isn’t good enough, especially when you consider they have been to Norwich and Newcastle and lost in that time. They offered up a better display in defeat to West Ham on Sunday but performances are irrelevant now it is results that matter.

Team News

Burnley are expected to be without their captain Ben Mee for this match but they will be boosted defensively by the return from suspension of Nathan Collins. Erik Pieters and Johann Berg Gudmundsson remain out injured.

Everton will be without the suspended pair of Michael Keane and Allan while Yerry Mina remains out injured. Donny Van de Beek is likely to miss out with the issue which caused a late switch at West Ham on Sunday but Seamus Coleman and Fabian Delph could be involved.

Betting

This certainly isn’t the easiest match to bet on because one goal is going to change the whole dynamic of it given the need to win that both teams have. I certainly wouldn’t want to be on the under which is the natural instinct in this match because if that opening goal arrives early it might naturally force an expansive game. There isn’t too many ways in on this match either which isn’t helpful but I’m going to take the side who have been here before and who have experiences to draw upon.

That is Burnley. This is no unique situation for them so they will know how to prepare for the match and ensure they are able to give their best performance. This is all new territory for Everton and in truth they aren’t exactly dealing with it very well. What is more they are without arguably their best defender and the shield in front of what will be a young defence here which you would imagine will be music to the ears of Burnley and their directness. Conditions are likely to dictate that this could turn into a really physical battle which Burnley will relish so if there is a winner I fancy it will be them.
