The WDF World Darts Championship draws to a close on what has the potential to be a special evening of darts inside the Lakeside Country Club as we crown the first champions under the WDF banner after what has been a great week to date.
Four finals will take place in all, the girls and boys will open up the evening and then the ladies and the men take centre stage. It is the latter two finals which we will focus on and get stuck into as the titles get decided.
Beau Greaves vs Kirsty Hutchinson
The first WDF women’s final will see the teenage sensation Beau Greaves taking on the feisty challenger Kirsty Hutchinson in what should be a great conclusion to what has been a really good women’s event despite the absence of the three big names.
This final will be played over the best of seven sets which means it will be the longest match in women’s darts history and that is certainly a dynamic to remember when it comes to predicting and betting on this final. Greaves is a massive favourite to win the match and given that she has come through the quarter final and semi-final against seasoned opponents without dropping a set that understandable but neither of those opponents could score to the standard that Hutchinson can so this will be all about whether an 18-year-old on the biggest evening of her life can hold her nerve and get the job done. Hutchinson has come through one deciding leg battle in the semi-final so we know he can deliver the goods under pressure and that might be significant in this final. I hope it is because I have backed the Geordie outright and with the place dough in the bag I’m on her at 25/1 for this match. I’m happy to take my chances that the older player holds her nerve better and gets over the line here.

Neil Duff vs Thibault Tricole
The last match of the tournament will come in the men’s final as the Northern Ireland number one Neil Duff takes on the French player Thibault Tricole over the best of 11 sets with one of them putting their name alongside some illustrious names who have already won this title in its BDO guise.
Duff has had a date with destiny all week because this has been his daughters 18th birthday and he wanted to be on the final on that day. You could argue fate has brought Tricole to this point because he has had to dodge eight match darts against him in the tournament to date but to his credit he has come through two titanic tussles in the quarter final and the semi-final. That date with destiny looked like it wouldn’t happen for Duff when he was 3-0 down in his quarter final but he seems to improve the longer matches go on and over 11 sets that could be significant. There has only been one round in this tournament when Tricole has averaged more than Duff but I don’t believe averages are a thing in the final. It is all about who can hold their nerve and get over the line and with that in mind it is a big concern that Tricole literally fell over the line in his semi-final against Menzies in his semi-final. What those averages do tell us is that Duff has been the better player of the two this week and I think that he wins this as a result.
