The USPGA Championship comes to a conclusion on Sunday evening as the Wanamaker Trophy will be placed into the hands of the player who comes out on top, and it looks like it could very well be a career changing night for whoever that is.
That is because we have a leaderboard where none of the top six players have won a major before so history is ready to be made at Southern Hills. Four of the leading six have never won on the PGA Tour either so this could be a special day for someone.
Round 3 Recap
The two leaders flipped around pretty early on Saturday and as a result it is the Chilean rising star Mito Pereira who will take a three shot lead into the final round. He leads on nine under with Matt Fitzpatrick and Will Zalatoris together on six under. Our pre-tournament pick Cameron Young is next on five under while Abraham Ancer sits along on four under. The only other player within six shots of the lead is Seamus Power who begins the final round on three under. Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson and Rory McIlroy are just some of the star names who have left themselves plenty to do after dismal third rounds.
It wasn’t a brilliant third round for us from a betting point of view. I say that because the two ball bet we had could only tie. Stewart Cink led for much of the way round but Chris Kirk levelled up on the back nine and scrambled his way to a tie with both players shooting +1 annoyingly. That felt like one which got away as Kirk was +4 at one stage. Thankfully the 67 shot by Young and the 70 Max Homa shot gave us something to be positive about.
Sunday Betting
We have the outright market and a few of the top finishes markets to go at on Sunday but I’m not going to add to what I have running for me on the day already. Pereira is now a 6/4 favourite to win the title but the middle of the round on Saturday showed us that he is anything but a certainty. Matt Fitzpatrick is a regular winner on the DP World Tour but this is a whole new level while Will Zalatoris has won an amateur event around here before. Then there is Young who those who followed us in from the start are on at 75/1. He is now 9/1 to win the title and might be the value from here if you are not already on. With Young deep in the mix and Max Homa teeing off one shot outside of a place I’m happy with what I have in the outright market heading into Sunday.

Sunday 2 Balls
The tournament will conclude with two balls on Sunday with the final pairing of Mito Pereira and Matt Fitzpatrick on the first tee at 19.35 BST. The penultimate group onto the golf course sees Will Zalatoris and Cameron Young paired together. They go out at 19.25 BST. Among the early groups onto the golf course which should get plenty of attention in the opening phases of the TV coverage are Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau who go out at 14.55 BST while Rory McIlroy is out with Adri Arnaus at 17.45 BST. I’ll finish the week with one bet.
Bubba Watson vs Webb Simpson
Match tees off at 18.55 BST
Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson go out in the fifth to last group onto the golf course on Sunday. These two will know each other well having partnered each other in the Ryder Cup in the past and they’ll look to use that connection to propel themselves up the leaderboard in this final round.
Simpson took full advantage of moving day on Saturday, coming from the cut line at +4 to shoot 65 and now sit inside the top 10 heading into this final round. Watson went the other way on Saturday. His 73 saw his title hopes fade and I wonder if he’ll be able to bounce back from there here. He bogeyed three of the last four holes to shoot that 73 and it is a long way back now. Simpson shot a brilliant 65 and although you could argue he had the best of the greens it shows that he is going well. In fact, he has two rounds under par this weekend and just got caught up in the nasty conditions on Friday which Watson didn’t have to encounter. He took full advantage to shoot 63 but his other two rounds haven’t been as great. There hasn’t been much in the statistics between the two except Simpson is ahead on the greens and that can lead him to victory here.
